Hi folks looking for help I have a 2010 fiat 500 1.2 was out in it on Friday stopped to go to the shop on return to car put key in ignition and it refused to start throwing up a " fuel cut off unavailable " message on dash so had it towed home. Had similar message when I changed gearbox at start of year because of a loose earth connection to starter motor. So checked starter motor and found it was dead totally, replaced starter motor but still get same message, and engine refuses to turn over.
Searched handbook and followed instruction for restoring the fuel cut off but hasn't changed anything, is there an actual switch I can press to override the fuel cut off ?

Had a friend run diagnostic and only thing he can come up with is an immobiliser _ circuit or component protection time out.
Is there any way of restting the Imobilizer ?

Thanks in advance for any help

Disconnected battery for a full 24 hours and no change, only have 1 key and works as it should.
Buttons unlock and lock car, key in dashboard lights come on but nothing else happens

Haven't checked gearbox earth strap as of yet but will tomorrow.

Hopefully it’s just down to that earth strap my car is a 2011 and my strap was so oxidised it was as green as a cucumber and fraying! When I swapped it (for a second hand one DOH) I got fuel cutoff warning and car wouldn’t turn over! Got a new one on eBay and presto car works!

As for random diagnostic software… it can sometimes lead you up the garden path! Almost all of us 500 owners on here swear by multiecuscan as it’s fiat specific software and gives it to you straight when u have an issue!

Well worth spending 50 euros on and a set of leads to go with it runs on your laptop!

I will check gearbox earth strap and the guy I had come do diagnostics runs his own garage so would expect t him to have suitable software for the car, been using same guy for my diagnostic for years and this is the only time he cant tell me exactly what's wrong with it

Well I’m still learning … I’m learning fast nevertheless still a learner!
But I’m guessing if he used MES and it was a serious issue it would show up!
But I do know that generic software can lead you to a totally different place!!

There are a lot of garages that don’t use MES it’s more in tune with say a dealership so I suspect he just has a code reader?
Anyway keep us updated we are all here to help

An update. Checked gearbox earth strap couldn't see any obvious damage, cleaned up both ends of strap still refuses to start so borrowed a friends gearbox earthstrap from a 1.2 punto and still nothing. So totally lost as to what the issue is so bought another motor ( Not a fiat 500) and now breaking the 500

Turn the key I hear starter fire but nothing afterwards, bumped and towed to get it to fire but nothing at all

"fuel 'cut off' UNAVAILABLE" implies that there IS fuel available

Not necessarily.

On the 500, the fuel cutoff is managed by the airbag subsystem, so the message could be an indication that the airbag ECU isn't having a good day, or isn't properly aligned with the other electronic systems.

I've also seen this message on a car with the rear hatch wiring fault.

I'm starting to think it's the airbag ECU at fault have tried everything else

So it cranks but does not start, "fuel 'cut off' UNAVAILABLE" implies that there IS fuel available, You say you're breaking the car so may not be worth further work?

No engine doesn't crank, fuel pump fires when ignition goes on and when turn it to start I hear the starter motor fire and nothing else happens
