Forgive me for all the new threads but I’m still learning how to use the site!!

So now all my big jobs are out of the way I’m down to the little ones!!

My heated mirrors don’t work or at least don’t seem to.
Last winter they didn’t seem to for sure! I’m going to test the mirrors/ contacts tomorrow and take it from there I’ve had a look at the contacts and they look a little corroded any ideas how to clean them up as they are very small!

I’ve also ordered new heated glass as what’s the betting the elements have burnt out

Failing all this and if no broken wires does anyone know where or what fuse is for the mirrors?

They work with the headed rear screen

If you didn't in allready know that

And looks like either ,f,85 or f,90 in the fusebox under the bonnet is for the mirror heaters

Thank you! Yes I know it’s the demist button to operate I’ll run through my checks Tom hopefully it’s just dead elements as they probably never been touched!

How do you access the fuse box!! Do you have to remove the battery? I can’t actually see any fuses with no’s 85 or 90?

Ok managed it .... so just looked at a diagram.. heated window & mirror de misters is f20 what wattage is it? As it says 30 next to it on chart but?? Haha still learning!!

Hi,
There should be a number on the fuse itself.
Fuses are rated in the maximum number of amps electrical current that can flow through them before they "blow"
The amps number is related to power but let's not get into it here.

Cheers
Jack

The heated rear window working means the fuse for heated window is good.if
It's the same fuse for heated mirrors then the fuse isn't the problem.

On other makes other than fiat, there is a switch to change the aim control from right mirror to left mirror and there is a middle position for this switch . The heated mirrors only work if switch in middle position

Yeah the rear de mist works so can’t be fuse I’m trying to figure out how to use my amp meter [emoji23] I’ve figured out resistance and tested both mirrors they seem ok

The wattage on the contacts within mirror housing differs greatly from drivers side to passenger
The passenger side is reading very low even though I’ve replaced the loom within the passenger mirror today

Saying all that that’s of course if I’m using the meter correctly.... I’m only just learning!

Please don't use an amp meter until you are confident measuring voltage(-:

It is much safer measuring voltage to see if voltage present (switched on) than disconnecting wires bridging the gap with your meter leads and then looking for current flow (amps)

Best thoughts

Look for battery voltage at the wires that connect to back of mirror glass

Yes that’s what I’m doing but unsure what number I’m looking for?
Set meter to read dc volts rang up to 20volts if you meter has that range(It means meter will read up to a maximum of 20volts dc.
With heated mirrors switched on you should detect around car battery voltage at mirror glass contacts.
As you don't think your heated mirrors are working you may not detect battery voltage.

The first step I'd take is to remove the mirrors from the car, put them on the bench and use the DMM across the contacts of each to determine if there's a resistance between them. If not then the track's probably broken or corroded through at some point - usually at the connector - very common in your climate. New mirror required.

While the mirrors are off then use the DMM across the two wires in the mirror housing and look for battery voltage when the rear demister's on. If there's nothing you might have a broken wire and that'll take a lot more sleuthing. If the voltage is OK the fault is again on the back of the glass.

Well done. (y)

It'd be nice to know what caused the fuse to blow in the first instance though.

Reminds me that I have no idea whether my own mirror heaters work or not - I've only used the demister once or twice in the life of the car.
