Technical 500 heated mirrors

Possibly water behind the mirrors?? & time!? Who knows if or when it was ever changed! Incidentally my heated rear window was working just not the wing mirrors!!?? As they both run off the same fuse I’m baffled [emoji54]

The mirrors were definitely not working last winter but as I say the window was!

Anyway I’ll monitor and see how I go

Incidentally I’m now covering my mirrors before I wash the car [emoji23] wrapping with bin liners to keep as dry as possible... I was prior just hosing with impunity [emoji15]

The element's themselves are usually embedded in a plastic film and the connectors are further down inside the arm
So water shouldn't be an issue

Must admit I've always hosed mine down with gay abandon when I wash the car! I should probably test my mirrors...

Is it possible you blew the fuse while testing? Only thing I can think of that makes sense of that.

I wouldn’t rule that out with me trying to use a multi meter [emoji19]

I may have blown it yeah as the day after using multimeter I bought new fuses & a probe that uses illumination as soon as I changed the fuse I had power to the wires [emoji23]

Who knows!! But like I said last winter I did use the rear de mister and it worked but no heated mirrors!!
I didn’t even know I had em till I took off one of my old covers to replace it and saw the wires to mirror!

Maybe both old mirrors had died but was still getting current hence de mist working on rear
Then I blew fuse with multi meter!

I can safely say I’m not going to use meter again until I’m absolutely sure of what I’m doing!!!!! I don’t wanna f things up!

Yes they are but just to be on safe side I’ve wrapped them also but I did have a habit of hosing out the mirror with no mind to the wires in there!

If the MM was set for amps and connected across the terminals that would certainly do it.

This page and its follow up links are as good a primer on using the meter as I've found;

I only used voltage for contacts & resistance for the mirrors but I was a bit confused and with me (sometimes) it’s possible BUT I don’t really do any work on the car unless I feel completely comfortable doing it
And I’ve fully researched how to .....

I’ll defo look at that link you sent as I really need to know how to work this..... IMG_4460.JPG

Hi,

Pic helps a lot(-:

If you did not remove the red test lead from you meter and reinsert red test lead in the next hole up in picture then you could not have blown fuse in your car with your meter.

For now leave you test leads plugged into your meter as they are in picture.

Good job on your mirror fix.

Jack

Ps just zoomed in on pic of your meter and see the 5amp current socket for test lead has a 5amp fuse of its own inside meter.

But still reccomend not using current testing yet.

Yeah just followed instructions and set it up as per pic I never used top hole!
