Hello and apologies for any ignorance as I am a new user here.
My daughter has a 2011 500 Twinair Pop which needs a replacement fuel tank. The part number on the original is 518183840.would anyone be able to tell me whether this is now a redundant part that has been superseded by an upgraded tank and whether all petrol models share the same tank as I'm trying to get a replacement from a breakers. They all seem to look identical but have different part numbers!!
P.s. it needs replacing as we discovered a 3cm hole had been drilled into it just above the sender untit & this was leaking through what was a poor attempt to patch with fibreglass. Can anyone shed any light upon a legitimate reason for doing this?

Unbelievable! The only time I have seen holes like that bored into fuel tanks is at an EOL ( End Of Life) Vehicle Centre, when all fluids/gases have to be removed before car is recycled.
How long has it been like this and has she been using it like this?
As for tanks then they will make slight changes over the production cycle of the car and the diesel is Deffo gonna be different to the petrol in my opinion.
Only reason I can think is that it was mis-fueled in the past and this was a redneck fix to get the contaminated fuel out!

But they drill them underneath and drain them don’t they? This is on top unless I’m mistaken.

This is a clear case of a car that should never been on the road, someone seriously endangered your daughter, that's not to say once fixed it'll be fine, bet trading standards would be interested? Did it have a new MOT?

It was a private seller who I have no doubt was unaware of the poor fix and as it is well hidden away it wouldn't get picked up on an MOT. My suspicions is that one of the previous keepers going back some time may have used the tank for a concealment on a trip abroad.

Hi. :)
As nobody has given you relevant info.

Look here..
https://www.fiatdalys.lt/en/catalog/diagrams/102/3P/0/0/CC0.9/CMBBZ,CMBGSL/GDX/fuel-injection-system

Compare pumps too ;)

If its the same pump.. filler neck tubing

And body style !!.

Youve got a fair chance

typecastboy might have come across this

SEARCH on here is very good too ;)

The pumps are definately different as I found out when I thought my Abarth one was broken. You only need to do a search on Ebay to find that out.

I would contact Club500Italia on eBay, they will be able to tell you as they dismantle these cars all the time. Chances are, they will have the correct one for your car if they do differ.
