I’ve had my 09 pop for 6 months or so bought it in March this year from Evans halshaw basically needed a car fast as car share was not poss anymore
I’m no mechanic nor expert at noticing problems the day I bought it was windy and heavy rain (excuses)!! I noticed last month the passenger door does not align perfectly and I honestly believe the car has previously been in an accident!!! When I changed the door cards the white covering underneath was totally gone there’s funny looking wielding under the hood too covered by silver paint ...NO mention of any of this and to be honest I’m really Pssed off!!! So yesterday decided to go get a newish car! Anyone had anything like this before? Now I’m worried about selling it on too [emoji19]

They may not have gone through the insurance. The white under-covering protects the inside of the door from moisture and also acts as sound insulation. I am changing a passenger door next week and the old one will be chucked so you can have the lining if you want it. You will just have to tape it in place with duck tape. Is there anything else that makes you suspicious?

:yeahthat:

The Younger Mrs S.'s "new for her" Rasputin has had some interesting repairs. I didn't notice when I bought it but living with the beast and washing it/cleaning it makes it inevitable that I'd spot the shonky :tosser: work.

Rasputin seems to have chinned something at low speed, since the front wing doesn't quite sit round the headlamp very well.. the beast looks like he's wearing a monocle :D

The bumper is also marginally higher on one side than the other.. you can see it if you looks closely, even without measuring the shut line between the bonnet and bumper.

The bonnet looks like it's been re-sprayed (some existing stone-chips have just been sprayed over, rather than filled.. (sigh!) and the offending front wing ^ is a subtly different shade of white, so it looks like the wing/bonnet +/- bumper have been in at least two knocks.

The OCD in me wants to align it all up and get the whole front end sprayed up.. :D but the bank manager doesn't like that idea and the Younger Mrs S. isn't that bothered since if it's immaculate she'll worry more about bumping it herself, whereas a bit "war-horse" means that another bump is only likely to improve things... :D

By the time they're ten years old, most cars will be carrying some repaired accident damage. The pressure placed on the repair industry by the insurers (who pay for most of it) ensures that much of the work is completed to a low standard.

Most of these accident repairs won't show on an HPI check.

Any secondhand car purchase should be carefully checked for repaired accident damage; the companies who carry out end of lease inspections for finance houses are very good at this, and many offer their services to prospective car buyers.

It’s ok as just going to be selling it on anyhow I actually added sound insulation to most of the car anyhow that’s how I spotted some of the inconsistencies .. evidence of panel beating warped passenger door esp the under side! It’s defo had some sort of damage in the past it’s clear as day! Serves me tight & learned a lesson!!

It’s only a problem if you paid proper money for it and didn’t know about it. Presumably right on both counts.
