Had an interesting experience recently.
My bunch of keys are grouped on 5inch chains with a pouch. Often, I pack all the unused keys in the pouch and „swing“ the pouch up to rest on top of the steering column.
Why - because the steering locks suffer from too much weight over time and develop contact issues. In addition, the keys often interfere with the knee.
Now when I wrapped the bundle upwards first and then tried to start the car, it would not start. Taking the bundle down immediately solved the problem. Very reproducible. Apparently the metal chain disturbs the transmission from the RFID chip in the key to the antenna in the lock.
Learning - be careful with metal objects close to the lock when starting the car. No problem once it is running.
