Hi,

I just replaced all 3 engine mounts on our 2010 fiat 500 twinair 85ps.. so i had LOTS of the car apart..

2 days later theres a warning light on, the generic one, exclamation in a triangle..

Assuming its not a bulb, what OBD tool do you recommend to scan for error codes and reset the inspection light?

OBDlink MX. So much faster and more compatible than the cheaper Chinese readers.

Software HAS to be Multiecuscan (MES) www.multiecuscan.net (€50)

Interface can be either a "Modified for Multiecuscan" ELM 327 USB lead and a set of adaptor leads like www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Fiat-Alfa-ELM-OBD2-Green-Red-Yellow-cables-adapters-Diagnostics-Multiecuscan/282526378637
(£28)
Or if you want plug and play with no adaptor leads and telephone support then a multiplexed interface and MES from GENDAN at £235 https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FESMPLEX.html

The packages like OBDlink won't access all modules without adaptor leads and wireless is not recommended for critical function as it can fail in the middle of doing something.

Hi, thanks for the info

So your saying that i could access all the modules with OBDlink if i had the adaptor cables?

I should have mentioned this, its unlikely that i will buy a windows laptop or other windows device only to diagnose my vehicles..
Its more likely that i will be looking at an OBDlink MX+ which has iOS campatibility.

No. If you want the most functional access, you need multiecuscan and that requires a windows environment.

All we're saying is that hardwiring OBDlink reduces the chances of a critical error during a write operation (which could brick your ecu). Even a hardwired OBDlink won't allow you to access all the modules.

If you're serious about maintaining a Fiat, MES is the only game in town that's within reach of a home user. It only needs Windows XP, and has very modest hardware requirements, so you could source a suitable computer for practically nothing. I bought two Compaq's running Vista business a couple of years ago for £1 each.

To answer the original question which was to scan for error codes and perform reset, then MES is not the only tool that will do this.
If you are after more in depth vehicle specific troubleshooting and diagnosis for Fiat/Alfa then MES is the software of choice.

That's cool. Just vanilla build it, turn auto updates off and install MES then you have a cheap diags tool that you could probably sell in a couple of years and get your money back.
