No; the 69HP VVT engines are an interference design; the external identifying feature is the VVT actuator in the cam cover. All 500's sold in the UK since launch use an interference engine.
Do not attempt a cambelt change without the correct locking tools unless you are both extremely careful and know exactly what you are doing. AIUI there are no timing marks on this engine.
The 60HP version of the 8V 1.2 FIRE as used in the Panda up to 2010 is non contact and this warning does not apply.

someone suggested non contact but did maybe think this was the case for the older Punto unit
Thanks, I've ordered an INA (OE) kit with water pump for only £45 trade, my mate runs an independent garage and is confident it's only 2 hours labour so I'm all sorted, I note jrkitching's advice though about no timing marks
