Hello all,

I've been driving for a few weeks now, I've had my little fiat 'Ragamuffin' waiting for me to pass for about a month. When my friend drove her from the dealership to my house he stalled at a junction and the car started up without him needing to do anything, I honestly thought it was just a fluke. Tonight on my way home from work I was waiting at a hill and had a car right behind me I was a little nervous as I still don't have my bite 100% there every time, I lifted the clutch up a fraction too high and stalled but the car restarted when I placed the clutch back down? I had to do nothing to the ignition or the gears or anything, it just carried on. I came home and looked through the manual but found nothing, unless it is something to do with the start/stop function but from what I could see that only work if you place the car in neutral and lift the clutch, but I could be wrong? I'm pretty sure I haven't even got it switched on at the moment.

I just wondered what this brilliant little feature was and how it works?

Any incite would be most appreciated (y)

Thank you fellow fiat drivers!
Hannah

If the stop/start is off there will be a little light come on in the dash binnacle, which is an "S" with arrows around it.
If this is not lit up then it will be the stop/start system firing up the engine again.
The same scenario happened with my wife's 14 plate 1.2 when she first got it. Although at the time I was having a go and mucked up the clutch bite with being used to a diesel.
A good thing did come out of it though, I liked the 500 that much I've traded my Jag in for one. I'm just waiting for mine to be built.....oh how the wait just seems so long lmao.

So I would say there's nothing to be worried about Hannah, its just a quirk of the stop/start system. And if I'm totally honest it helps to stop you looking like a complete prat....well that's my excuse anyway hehe.

Ahhh I will have to have a look at the dash tomorrow morning and see if it is turned on I probably just haven't noticed it before, thank you for the response!
haha nothing wrong with an upgrade ;) hope you're not waiting too much longer for it!!

Stop/start most likely.

You can turn it on and off with a button underneath the aircon controls on the dash.

It won't always work when you stall, and it won't always work when you want it to either. It's a bit tempramental like that! Generally, if you pop the car into neutral, handbrake on (just in case!) and foot off the clutch, it'll cut the engine.

Enjoy the 500!

It's the start/stop system working as it should.
Your last comment, when You stalled it, that also worked as it should:

Note In cases of undesired engine stops, due for example to
the clutch pedal being released abruptly with a gear engaged,
if the Start&Stop system is activated, the engine can be
restarted by fully depressing the clutch pedal or by placing the
gear lever in neutral.

It's in the manual in the section explaining start&stop system (page 84 in the 2014 manual I found online at aftersales.fiat.com).
