Out yesterday, started a few times, and all was fine. I'm going to continue to start with no seatbelt, no clutch, in neutral, and straight to AVV ........... just like all the other cars I've driven over the last 45years.

Mick i don`t think it`s anything to do with starting the car ,there have been several reports on here of display binnacles failing ,it could even be a simple connection issue, some on here have had it only light up in certain areas see below ,

Re: Starting a Twin Air

Thanks, but I reckon it's a computer issue. I may connect up the PC and see if there are any errors showing, but then I may not as I can't be bothered!

Remember, I started this thread because when starting up I found that I had to do it a certain way. That way seems to have been thrown into the long grass.

However, I reckon that the car wants to be started "correctly" in as much as being given notice of being started. This could be by switching to MAR until all the lights on the dash go out, or depressing the clutch as well.

It may be that I'm "surprising" the expected sequence, and my problem the other day was an intermittent symptom. The dash lights were off for only a couple of seconds, and all has been fine since.

TTFN
Mick.

I agree. I don't think Mick wants to take much notice though!

It's better if you wait for the warning lights to go out before starting. I've found rushing straight to start-up without waiting has sometimes led to the electronic bits like PAS not starting up (Mk2 Punto) or warning lights staying lit (Mk1 Punto). However, I worked for a Fiat dealer and have started loads of Fiats (mostly 500s) - they're simply not that fussy about starting process that if you occasionally deviate from Fiats recommendation they'll go into meltdown.

There's only one reason for a car being this fussy - it's got a fault. Can't be much simpler than that I'm afraid

Thanks Liam i was trying to help with the display binnacle as it could be a faulty connection and most likely is, before it fails to have it looked at hopefully he will.

Re: Starting a Twin Air

Thanks for the concerns and the advice guys.
Very grateful ..... honest.

I've decided to go back to Fiat's instructions from now on. That is, clutch in and straight to AVV. Meanwhile, I'll connect up the PC and multiecuscan and see what - if anything - shows up. Maybe a day or three before I do that, but I will.

If there's anything to report, rest assured I'll report back here.

Off to Exeter airport and back tomorrow up the A30, so I should give Rosa a good blast. 120miles there and back.

Cheers,
Mick.
