Hello,
I am trying to replace one of the 5 bulbs in my 3rd brake light (high level).
The manual says W5W 5W, so off I went to Halfords to get this bulb (it's apparently a 501 W5W?), put it in and it is dimmer than the others! I have switched them around, and it's defiantly the bulbs and not the car.
The bulb I took out (note that no one has ever changed these brake lights before so Fiat fitted these) says '12V6WX' (Toshiba). Does this mean that they are 6W not 5W? I cannot find 6W's anywhere!
Very confused about what to get and where to get it. Has anyone had this trouble before?
My car is a 1.4 Sport.
Many thanks,
Katie

No I haven't tried Fiat, as I have the bulbs that the manual says as far as I am aware. I will give it a go though if I cannot find the equivalent bulbs online.

Thank you, you were very helpful. Those are weird looking bulbs!
I have put the 5W bulb in the center, and at the moment you cannot tell the difference (only on the inside of the car can you see that the middle dot is dimmer).
However, if another one goes I will look at getting 5 of those!
I took my 6W bulb to a car parts dealer who knows everything about bulbs, and he had never seen them before!!
Very strange :)

For parts like globes, dealers don't always supply genuine parts.

I replaced all my third stops with these:

Quicker to light up, no CAN errors and quite a bit brighter than stock. Should outlast the car.

2x LED's on left. 2x Stock on right. Center left intentionally blank for deliniation between the two.

I have just realised your car has a black brake light holder thingy! Mine is cream, even though the interior of my car is black?? Odd!

Replacing the third brake light on my convertible

How in the planet do I get to this light in the canvas? I bought the replacement unit ($86.00). It was $135.00 for installation. I am going to try it myself. I have tried to You Tube this but cannot get the info I need. How do I replace this light in a 2012 Fiat 500? HELP:eek:

I presume that when you mention canvas you're referring to the 500C cabrio roof and the LED brake-light.

Do not try to prise the light out from outside! The light needs to be accessed from inside the car by removing the trim around the the rear window and removing the plastic 'spoiler'. BigKev posted about this a few years ago - here's one quote;

Quote from BigKev;
“Well, actually I had a go at this last year (this is an old thread). The rear portion of head lining is unclipped, then four screws are removed to release the spoiler, then the whole LED unit can be replaced. On assembly, apply more sealant to the four screw holes to combat leaks, replace screws and headlining. Fiddly working in the back of the car (it is for me as I am a huge fella!) but not difficult for a competent DIY type."

I haven't done this myself but it sounds straightforward. I need to remove the spoiler for repainting.
