Hi All, this morning while going to work a "very smart person" tried to cause in accident breaking (it was a very strong break) in front of our car without ny reason. He just didn't notice I have a dashcam :slayer:

First he cut us off then without no reason suddenly stopped the car in front of us. My girlfriend (who was driving) was enough smart to keep the right distance from the beginning and avoided the collision. The car behind us did the same (but was very very close).

At the traffic light I came out of the car, he did the same and started shouting at me...I just said "listen, we have a camera in the car...we will see, ok?". He suddenly got quite and went back to his car and kept driving like an angel.

I'm aware about the insurance scams, this is the reason I bought the dash cam and I'm wondering if this was the case...

I have the video but I didn't post it here because I'm not sure about the forum rules eheh Do you think I can make that video public? I moved to the Uk 3 years ago and I don't want to get in trouble so quickly!

Should I go to the police and file a complaint? What would you do?

Grazie! :)

Hello,
The day we got our fiat500 we bought a dashcam, only needed it the one time but police said there the best thing you can add to a car.
As said above report to police and show the video.

Looks like he spotted a cyclist on his nearside and decided to brake!

No, I don't think so. It looks like but as you can see the cyclist was not the issue. After he came out he started shouting something like "you cannot do that..." I'm not sure what he was talking about but the break was totally not related to the cyclist

Have to say that is not a scam in my book.

1, he is not "the type".
2, the car is much too new and nice.
3, there are no passengers to suffer whiplash.

Did you or your driver gesticulate at him to make him wave his hand out of the window?

Yeah I think th cyclist spooked him

mmhh....you can't see from the video but before getting in front of us he was 2 cm from the mirror. My gf had to break and let him go. The cyclist has nothing to do with the breaks, as you can see the car go to one direction and the cyclist turn left...

Btw, if you spot a cyclist the first reaction is to turn and not to break with such strength and eventually take him with the mirror! ;)

After he almost took the mirror pushing is car forward my gf used the horn, the rod was merging and she correctly let the bus in while this guy just didn't want to wait a bit. In any case, there was no violence in how my girlfriend was driving or using the horn. He probably got bothered by the horn but hey, that doesn't justify using the breaks in such way. There were other cars behind and we all risked to collide because of him.

As you said he doesn't look like a criminal but he clearly wanted us to end in his car or eventually shake us a bit.

I do not gesticulate in my car and as you could see I went out without insulting him or shouting. I just can't stand dangerous people driving.

It's a hard one to call, it certainly looks like a deliberate attempt to get you to rear end him but equally it's does look like a bit of an overreaction to the cyclist suddenly coming into view.

I would share it with the police and let them make up their mind. They may just have a word with him but as to whether it's an insurance scam or not is debatable to say the least.

Looked to me like he was following the bus in moving to the outside lane, and felt that the driver with the camera hadn't 'welcomed' him into the lane properly.

In truth he looked like a stubborn old bugger, but I can't really see why anybody needed to get out of their cars. Too much testosterone I reckon.

Our roads are too crowded and we tend, for various reasons, to be under stress a lot of the time. Back off is the best response.

'could' be a rental car

however in this case i'm inclined to agree with the above doesn't seem like a scam, either the cyclist made him jump which is what the video kinda shows or he was being an arse because it was his god given right to be in front of you and you hadn't let him in

I think you'd struggle to claim this was a scam

If you have a camera and someone does something dodgy you want to get his face too...maybe? :) I was smiling when I got back to the car so I had no problems with my testosterone eheh

I normally do not leave my car and you are right about backing off but this time it was nice to show his face.

So if I have this right, the sequence of events is:

1 Focus cuts in.
2 OP's driver sounds horn.
3 Focus driver slams on brakes.

In that case this is definitely not a case of attempting to cause an accident, it is a case of three people driving with perhaps a little less compassion and love in their hearts than is good for them. Don't take that as personal criticism - we all do it, myself very much included, but looked at from the outside it is easy to see how it can go wrong. Good job the Focus driver wasn't 20 years younger and carrying a blade....

eheh look, I probably drive with less compassion and love in my hearth but I don't see why she could be blamed. She left planty of space for the bus and was correctly on her lane. He rushed in and almost got our mirror! Wouldn't you use the horn?

I repeat, one thing is being emotional, gesticulate, insult...etc... but stopping the car in that way can be seriously dangerous. Maybe not done to claim some money from the insurance but not acceptable.

What if the focus driver was 20 year older? I told you he come almost inside our car, I saw his wrinkles! :)

Wouldn't you use the horn?

Absolutely. I did almost exactly the same thing to a git pushing in on me about 10 days ago. Long blast of the horn and kept driving, and he bottled it first. But I probably should have just let him go. He was then behind me, making rude signs at me - and I didn't get out. (That was probably in part down to my wife screaming at me for being an aggressive moron.)

My point is that we all do things we shouldn't do. I'm not blaming your wife at all - just not surprising that her use of the horn caused him to decide to slam the anchors on.

love in my hearth

You want fire in your hearth, not love.
