Technical Warning Lights on Dash

Technical Warning Lights on Dash

Finally got into the footwell, and checked out the Airbag ECU with the help of this guy on YT

So I took all the covers off as described in the vid, and applied a Digital Multi Meter (DMM) to prove power was present at the plug and the same with oscilloscope, for data.

Both were present, so I removed it, and sent off to these people for repair.

Not sure if they can do it, but it's the next step in the process, so has to be done.
They said they can usually turn it around in about 3-5 days, which means I should see it this side of Xmas.

ECU arrived Tuesday, will fit it the weekend 🤞 or when the weather is good enough.

Great service so far, DHL arrived at my works to collect it, left without coming to the office 😲
Rang ECU Testing and the lady kindly arranged another collection. I don't work Fridays, but left the ECU there as that was the collection address, and left strict instructions to everone in the office about what to do if DHL asks for me.

Playing in my mancave at home DHL turned up to collect my ECU 😖
I told the driver that this was the invoicing address, and he very quickly contacted another driver to pick it up in that area, and all went fine after that.

The comms from the testing centre was top notch, messages when they received it, when they plan to start it, when they atually started it, when it was finished, when they received payment, and when it had been shipped.

The icing on the cake will be when you turn the keys and all the lights on the dash go off, and all my airbags are still intact.

What's all the more worrying is the question of what caused it anyway ❓

To true sure dont want it to happen Again!:rolleyes:

Oops, forgot to post the result.

All working, getting the ECU repaired did the trick.

Disconnected the battery, almost forgot the second earth cable , but didn't, and when I was undoing the nut that secures it there was small sparks around the centre hole to the bolt threads.

Bolted in the ECU, slipped in the plugs, connected the battery (plus additional earth) and turned the key. All lamps extinguished.

Turned off the ignition and replaced all covers, job done. 🍺

If you work out why computerised stuff goes wrong, you will know you are actuallly god!
Its why I hate electronic stuff. TOO CLEVER BY HALF FOR ME.

Well, some of these chips inside the ECU are powered by 3.3V or even lower. So the supply voltage needs to be perfect. If either the supply or data connections allow spikes to pass there's a pretty high chance they'll knock the chip out altogether.
My guess is that this is exactly what happens all to frequently. To the average bod, this is rocket science and can easily be explained away with some other excuse, and who is there to prove otherwise.

Reckon computer scientists are rather like dentists- as both build little"gremlins" into their work designed to "explode" at a later date and cause you pain and cost you money! normally at the most inconvenient time possible! but hey it's a living i guess!😉
