I am assuming you depress the clutch without depressing the accelerator at the same time ? Do both and you will be sitting there like a numpty.. :)

I don't think I've ever in my life pressed both pedals at the same time from a standstill.
Why would anyone do that?

Downchanging I may to match the revs to the lower gear, but not whilst stationary.

It will be typical that my car will be the 1st to have this unique problem. :(

Has anyone had this fault on their car?

Pull up at the lights for instance, go into neutral and the engine stops, S&S logo appears on the clocks. lights go green, press the clutch and nothing happens. The motor does not restart. You then have to quickly turn the keys fully off and restart the car whilst everyone behind you thinks your sending a text etc.

in testing out this problem, if I don't restart the motor and just wait, I will eventually get "start/stop unavailable" I may even get "ELD unavailable" "ESC unavailable" and once had "airbag fault"

Typically this problemis intermittant with the car working great 75% of the time and everytime the dealer has had it in it flaming works fine.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

I had similar on our 500 probably about three or four times in 18 months ownership.

In my case however I just released the clutch and depressed it again and the engine started.

It never became frequent or problematic enough to refer to the dealer though.

Thanks Robin,

My car had had an update recently and it still cuts in if I don't press the cut- off button - on a new journey.

I was beginning to wonder if they had done an update after all, but I do trust them, and there was an S&S update due, what for who knows?

No you won't, should still restart.

Launch control (@ahmett would love this!).

Place in 1st with SS engaged, gas pedal to the floor, when ready to go foot to floor on clutch, engine starts, revs whizz up and away you go.

Courtesy cars are always the fastest btw :p

Was pleasantly surprised the 500 only revs to 3500rpm when stationary though. Not sure if this is all of them or just later ones with the 1.2 engine.

Twin airs do that too, and I reckon rental cars are the quickest by a smidge. :slayer:

I took my car into Fiat dealer this morning after numerous restart fails.
Progress is made. The car failed to restart or the technician numerous times.

They put the car on a battery tester and said it shows 42% charge state and that a full charge should solve all my problems (if only )

I've ordered a charger so let's see if that does the trick. I think there is something deeper to it than that as the randomness of working/not working just does not make sense.
Surely if the car thought there was not enough juice in the battery to restart the motor it wouldn't turn it off in the 1st place??

Here's a video of the problem if you want to see what I'm going on about.

I thought I'd update this just in case anyone else finds it useful in the future, and if the battery charge doesn't fix it I'll update again.

I have just fitted a brand new Lucas EFB battery. My dashboard is clear for about the first 1/2 mile and then the start stop light and yellow triangle lights are showing on my dashboard.

Not done any long journeys yet but not sure if I have a fault or not?

Incidentally.... I charged up my battery again on Friday on a SS maintenance charge and this time NO start stop nothing for the last 2 days
I still have not had Halfords test my battery I will but as it’s under a year old I’m guessing it’s prob ok

Is there a sensor anywhere that could be faulty? I’m not really that bothered as SS is a pain but I would kind of like to know!

I’m a bit like a dog with a bone!

Ok I’m gonna try replacing my earth strap but can someone pop a link to one from fleabay? As I forgot what it looks like or where it is!? Is it that quick release negative battery thing that sits on the negative side and clips on the pole?

Just found it! Mine is green with corrosion both ends! I’m surprised it’s not giving me any other issues!! It looks like it could be the original... just found an original but newer on eBay and a fitting guide on here ...... [emoji122]

Hopefully that will solve it.

I was lucky enough to have a longish trip in the week. Hastings to Suffolk and back and my SS has been working continuously since [emoji3]

I did more miles on that day than I’ve done since I got the 500 a week before lockdown.
