Technical 500c Damaged Wires To Boot Lid

I know you're talking about the 500c, but there is a service replacement rear loom section to repair the damaged wiring that occurs between the hatch and body. I'll dig out the bulletin reference and part numbers later on.
I have been told it will cost £500 to repair the loom and get the boot opened.

I have an intermittent issue with my boot release switch sometimes it works others not but the remote release works either way, so my question is does the boot switch tell the bcm to release the catch or is it direct to the boot actuator? IE is the hatch wiring starting to fail?
I've had the switch off and seems ok last time it happened we banged the boot lid and the switch worked so am still stumped

Is there any way/method to prevent/ slow down the failure in the first place that anyone has tried?

Pre-empt it by fitting the replacement now?;)

Has anyone seen a similar replacement for the 500C boot? FIAT have addressed that one since about 2013 with a cable double the length but my car has the original short length (quite taut when the boot's open) while my OH's has the newer long length with plastic clip to hold it onto the hinge bracket.

I'll have a look soon I feel my boot release issue may well be the signal wire failing after I've replaced the other lower control arm, the nearside made so much noise you couldn't hear the off side was bust too(it's the rear most bush that's going not the steering ball joint)

Pre-emptively replace the affected part of the wiring with a more supple and flexible alternative.

Or don't open the tailgate, particularly in cold weather (the plastic insulation on the wires is more brittle at low temperatures).

Switch signals body computer to pop boot release.

This morning fitted a new electric latch mechanism and, hey presto, it didn't work. Then I looked at Fiat Forum - eureka! Sliding off the rubber boot revealed several of the about 9 wires were bare - amazed that no. plate lights, etc, hadn't failed. Anyway, the culprit, the purple wire, was completely severed. Fortunately there was a little slack in the ends and both ends tinned quite easily so I managed to make a fairly strong solder joint (we'll see how long it lasts!). After applying insulating tape to the exposed wires I bundled everything together and everything works. And now to take the unwanted latch back to Arnold Clark, hopefully for a refund.! Assuming successful, this temporary repair cost me a repalcement 20A fuse and 6" of wire solder. Many thanks again, Fiat Forum.:):):)
