I have just brought a second hand 2009 Fiat 500 1.3 Mjet Diesel with 12000 miles on it.
The car has been in storage for the last year hence the low mileage.
After a few days I noticed a oil burning smell which has got worse recently, sometime smoking. I have had a look under the bonnet and under the car but I can see no signs of any burnt oil. I have carried on using it hoping it would be a case of just of it not being used for while.
Last night my wife drove home and when she started it the she got a message on the dash saying "anti pollution filter clogged see owners manual". when she got home the was a lot of smoke and a burning smell.
I started the car this morning and the message was still there so I took it for a fast run on the dual carriage way as the owners manual suggests and the warning went off. I continued to drive for another 45 minutes and everything now seems fine.
I have only had the car for a week and I am just a bit worried by it all, is this normal?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Sounds like a failed regen to start with. Your run down the dual carriageway should have sorted things for the time being. Depends on the type of mileage you do if it's gong to be a reoccurring thing or not.
