Styling What wheels

Styling What wheels

I have a ByDiesel as well and I have to say, in my opinion only, that the original wheels are much much better. CAn't help but feel you ruined the look.
Although I'm looking forward if you do go ahead with the wrap.....and the exhaust.

But the wheels can be put back on so I hardly see it as ruining the look....

Rui, as Maxi says, they are stuck on (at least on ordinary 500s) and I can't see the ByDiesel being any different. Regarding the wheels, before I read that they were actually real items I thought it was a photoshop job as they do look rather large.

Interesting how different people respond to visual effects though, I had those wheels on my car but didn't like them so replaced them. You chose Petals because you liked them and didn't like the wheels I fitted to mine.

Good job we're all different.

Regarding the side strips, I chose to have them fitted on my previous two cars but I have to say that the ByDiesel ones don't appeal to me either.

Do you not think they suit the black a bit more? I think they're terrible on a BNW car, truly terrible but on that car they look nice :)

I think they can be removed but it will need to have the car in the bodyshop to fill in where the fixings were and then respray the doors. I don't really want to do that right now.

I am unsure how it would look if you take off the bumper inserts and the door protectors. Since they're satin finished - they're in at the moment. You might have to 'think through' the bumper inserts before tackling the side protectors.

You've probably already seen this - maybe you weren't so mad after all :) ...

Other styling tweaks unique to the 500 Zagato Coupe include black leather seats and steering wheel with contrasting yellow inserts and seventeen-inch ‘chrome shadow’ wheels.

Bumper inserts do indeed go through the bumpers when they're factory fit options.

Very quickly done but here is what it would look like with out the side bits.

I am now not sure...I may keep them

Personally I'd keep them or if you were wanting to change, I'd get normal ones put on and paint them black.

I did look for the ebay 16inch 'copy' petal abarth wheels but I couldn't find them (they might have got served with a copyright infringement).

RUI - I know you have picked your wheels but I had a link in my watch list on ebay for these 'copy' wheels - so it looks like they can still be got if anyone else was looking at the thread. I have no idea what they're like.

On the side strip being removed - it looks a bit 'naked'. On the last black one I had - it had the italian strips and the italian badge down on the bottom rear panel but it was very much a personalised look and might not appeal to a mature 38 year old. :)

If you go for the stealth look it needs the side skirt which I know you're not keen on. Here is a another pic of black one that I was fortunate to enough to get a blast in - my apologies if it is any way offensive. ;)

EDIT: Just added a picture of the 16 inch copy wheels of the 17s off the A500.

One of the best things about the new wheels is that they are so easy to clean. No more using a wheel brush as my hand fits inside the wheel to clean it.

There are a couple of sets on ebay if anyone is interested one set of copies

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FIAT-500-GRAN...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2eb65f2268

and a set of genuine

But they are both quite expensive so it may be worth shopping around

I wouldn't see the point in buying a copy of the Abarth in 17s put could see the reason if they were the smaller 16 wheels. That secondhand set in the 'genuine article' are expensive.

Any difference in fuel consumption (now that you can start your car :)) with the big wheels ?

I have no idea if it has made any difference in mpg. I stopped looking at it a couple of months ago.

Great find RUI and knowing your history on ebay I'd imagine that you got an excellent price.(y)

Robbed some info from another forum that I thought might be useful. The petals you've bought are significantly lighter than the 10 spokes that you were considering. Would you consider fitting the Abarth springs and possibly get a decent pair of shocks to beef up the suspension at a later date ?

16" wheels = 8.4 kg + 8.1kg Pirelli = 16.5 x 4 = 66kg
16" wheels (OZ Alleggerita) = 6.3kg + 8.1kg Pirelli x 4 = 57.6kg
17" wheels (OZ Alleggerita) = 6.5kg + 10kg Pirelli x 4 = 66kg
17" wheels (Esseesse) = 10kg + 10kg x 4 = 80kg
then the 5 spoke petals (3.2kg heavier)
10 spokes (14kg heavier): these are 11.5kg each

P.S. There would be a good market for those Abarth discs & brakes for 1.4 owners - don't give them to the A500 drivers.:D

Realise that this is an 'old' thread but a question on the Abarth side has triggered re-looking at the weights I gave on the above wheels (without tyres).

Petals (the ones the RUI bought) are lighter at 9.2kg (total wgt. 76.8kg)
10 spokes are 11.9kgs (total wgt. 87.6kg)
Esseesse's were correct at 10kg being heavier than the Petals !

I'm glad to see this thread as I'm a bit of a wheel whore and I'm all about the lightest wheels and tyres possible.

I'm surprised to see though that the 17" tyre weighs more than the 16 as you'd think there would be less of it?

I have a set of new rota grid, 15 inch in white sitting in my bomb shelter (never know when that'll come in handy!) which I'm thinking winter tyres set.

They are 4x100 so will need a set of wobblies.
I may dig a couple out later and see if I can stage them to see how they look. I'll take a pic.

You have to have spare wheels..... :D

I've got 3 sets of alloys for the Subaru but only a spare set of steelies for the 500, that will have to be sorted out at some stage!

!

Tell me about it! My wife goes mad.
I have 2 sets of suzuki Ignis Sport alloys (never even owned one of those so god knows why, probably because they were made by Enkei and only weigh 5 kilos each) they are 4x100 but with a 45 offset. They may fit a Fiat with spacers??

I have a set of painted white toyota yaris 15" steelies which fitted perfectly on the Citroen C1 in an attempt to get the 106 rallye look

And a set of 17" steelies for the Caravelle shod with winter rubber.
There is a fashion at the moment to band these and slam your van like this.

Not doing that though as it's not cheap and questionable over legality??
Imagine phoning your insurance "yes, i've cut my wheels in half, then welded a new bit in the middle before welding them all back together again"
Not for me.

Than of course the Rotas which might look good on my black 500?? I'll see later.
