Cool Anyone hate your original suspension

hi all,

i have my 1.4 sport about 6 months. I love my car, but i found the suspension causing a lot uncomforted ride. I know that 16 inch alloy wheels is one of factors.

I'm thinking to upgrade my suspension, any idea which company is best for 500?

Re: Anyone hate your original suspension

like it was said....
If you want a smoother ride, get 15" wheels.
If you want a "better"......or even a racey ride, get K&W V1!

I have them......the car is cornering incredibly. It is a bit stiffer than original.....but everything else is so much better! No bouncyness, no bodyroll, even no over or under-steer.....
Thanks jeffreyzing thanked for this post

Re: Anyone hate your original suspension

My 500C has a pretty bumpy ride. I blame it on the new-design 16" multi-spoke wheels, because the 1.2 Pop that I test drove wasn't so bad.
I kinda feared the bigger rims would result in a rough ride, but I loved the looks of them so much I just had to have them.

Re: Anyone hate your original suspension

I don't, I think it's part of his 'complex nature'

As for the suspension I don't find mine as bumpy or are noisy as the car I test drove last year, but then that may be wishful thinking as I have to live with this one

Complex nature I like it!

Your will have the new suspension which is better than the one on the older cars.

Re: Anyone hate your original suspension

well i didn't exactly hate the original suspension but the Spax adjustables i have now are a big improvement in stability, handling and ride

the Abarth 500 i test drove was good as well so i think the rear arb change on current production Fiat 500 will solve most if not all of the complaints

Abarh 500 essesse is proper hardcore slammed and stiffened - and i would say a wee bit harsher ride than my Spax setup

Re: Anyone hate your original suspension

This is what Philippe Krieff, in charge of suspension on all the latest Fiats, Alfas and Lancias told Evo magazine...

"He is also the man behind the Abarth 500ís massive improvement in driving dynamics over the regular 500. So what happened with the 500 Esseesse, the car that seemingly lives on its solid bumpstops? ĎThat was done by the Abarth team. It has stiff springs, itís lower, it looks good, but I donít like it. Iím like you, I donít like a car to be too stiff. It takes away the pleasure.í

The Fiat groupís king of chassis dynamics declares the 500 Esseesse a dud. That, to me, is a sign of great hope."

Couldn't agree more.

These days there's a tendency towards harshness which makes ignorant drivers think that they're driving something "sporty". When you've got good dampers you can run stiff springs but (and this isn't just a Fiat thing) the OEM dampers on most cars are completely rubbish.

Krief seems to be getting a move on too..... the Mito and GP are both going to get multilink rear suspension soon which will be good for handling AND comfort. If the 500 was to get IRS in the future I'd so chop mine in for a new one......
