iv just had a browse on the fiat website 500 configurator. i thought there was 500.000 different optionsfor the car?i can only find a few on there abit restricted with choice except the few different sticker options and chrome details n alloys.deffinetly not 500.000 options though

I think it means the number of combinations you can have - not the number of options!

yes, that is correct. Number of combinations.

They work it out by having different # of combinations of one thing (eg. decals) times # of combinations of another (like different seat styles) times # of combinations of paint etc etc

So in the end if you want to work it all out you will get something like 10x15x30.... = >500,000.

And there you go. Over 500,000 different possibilities.

A mear marketing point only, I guess added when someone spotted there was a 500 in it. I bet they spat their skinny latte all over the designer desk when that fell in their laps

Talking of options, well we were in general, I see the passenger seat memory is now a £50 option.

Dunno why that wasn't an option before. I think most people would spec that for £50

Sorry, what I meant was that previously it was an FOC option and now it is £50.00. Bit like the smoking kit now costing £50 whereas before it was free on Sport and Lounge.

Well you'd have to get the whole seat changed. It's something nice to have but on the passenger seat isn't essential. Most people don't know how to operate it properly so it's wasted half the time anyway!

when we bought (Oct 08) it was a £50 option which we did spec until we realised that you lost the passenger under seat storage!!

Tracy, I didn't realise that the underseat storage was lost, or indeed that it was a chargeable option back then. I am sure I have read posts that it was FOC but needed to be asked for at the time of order. Probably best to have if you have specced leather and/or interscope in that case.

I guess that there are some options that don't show up on the configurator so you have to rely on the salesman knowing his stuff or get info from the forum. I still can't see the sat nav docking port on the configurator although a few people have had them fitted as AFAIK, an FOC option.

TBH even the drivers seat memory is useless though, if you do anything in *slightly* the wrong order it looses it's setting. Why Fiat needed to reinvent such an old system with such utter tosh is beyond me!

Works for me! Just need to make sure you explain it to anyone before they try to operate it!!!!

That's exactly my point. Rewind to 1987 and Citroen had this well sorted (and on both sides) on the AX GT for example so anyone could work it!

Well before the 500 I've never owned a car that wasn't a saloon so I don't have anything to compare it with. It may be a bit complicated but it does work.

Yes indeed, my 1982 Talbot Samba was foolproof in that respect as was my 1987 Ford Fiesta, I've not had any other two door cars with back seats since then but the 500 is definitely a retrograde step for rear seat access.
