General Oil change at 6k? Really?

Nothing you say will change my mind, I know that the job will be done, I know they will use the right things.
End of.

Well that is something I will live with. At the end of the day I may just change the car if it starts to give me problems..
Simples
I forgot to mention that the car has only done 3700 miles.

A car is nothing more than a commodity!

Thanks for your thoughts guys and girls. I'll definitely be asking why it needs an oil change so soon, but there's not really anything I can do about it. As Tony has pointed out, even if I changed the oil myself I couldn't reset the light, which is really annoying when night driving!

I'll let you know what the garage says later. Still feels like I'm having my pants pulled down over this. They're saying I should change the oil now, and then have a first service in March which will include an oil change, even though the car will only have done a couple of thousand miles.

Shame really, my old Golf tdi PD managed nearly 20k between services (and oil).

Matt, the part in bold is not strictly true. The diesel is the only engine that has an essential oil change based on the warning light/message coming on. I know it doesn't happen at all dealerships but the correct procedure (from a fiat tech on this forum) is to check the ECU to determine how much the quality of the oil has deteriorated.

Depending on the reading they calculate if you will need the oil changing before your next service is due.

Thanks for the info Tony:)
the guy at the garage was actually quite helpful, although he couldn't really give me any idea on how long it would be until the next oil change. He also confirmed what you said about checking oil quality at service before just changing it.

Only problem was, as it was being done I started to wander round their used cars and ended up driving a GP Sporting multijet 130 with leather. Very very nice car, very tempted to trade - especially as they are willing to do a swap with money my way.

Way to go! Check history & servicing has been done though, a few minor niggles with the GP's but nothing major really, 58,000 on mine now & I'm keeping it, its a brill car for the money! (y)

Nah you don't want a GP! :p People won't look at you and point and smile or come up to you in the street and comment on your car and you won't be able to look out at your car and smile.

I am of course being sarcastic :) If a GP is better for you then go for it (y)

Just keep in mind the prices you can get new ones for :)

You could swap for a new one and still have change in your pocket perhaps! :)

Yeah it is a little girly. If you think that the 500 is girly though you should have a testdrive of a 500c..... man I felt very much on show so to speak. Definitely couldn't get away with driving one of them myself :p
