I washed my car yesterday and after I had finished drying it, I got in the car to head off down the street but as I turned the key to MAR and let the dash lights go out, it beeped at me and displayed a message saying 'Insufficient brake fluid; do not continue'

I turned it off and tried again; same problem. So I opened the bonnet to check the level only to find it just under the maximum line! So I screwed the lid to the reservoir back on and tried again; the problem had disappeared.

Does anyone know why it would have done this? I'm worried it will happen again and that there's a fault with a sensor somewhere. :yuck:

Happened on the wifes scoob the other day. Rubber bladder at the top of the brake fluid lid wad fallen down and was pressing on the brake fluid float which of course is connected to the sensor. Not taken the lid off the brake fluid resevoir but is it a similar setup perhaps?

It has the same setup, and now that you mention it when I removed the lid to take a look the rubber section had dropped down slightly and was sat at a weird angle in the lid! That probably explains it then (y)

Poking around in mine there seems to be a heck of a lot of sensors, mine sometimes is convinced the boot is open when it isn't - just a quick turn of the rubber grommet and it's all sorted.

I like the statement 'Insufficient brake fluid; do not continue' which is clearly a misnomer, it should read 'Insufficient brake fluid; you will continue whether you like it or not '
:D
