many many thanks in advance

callo

now have both the owner's manual and the dualogic supplement, thanks to this forum.

can't post links at the moment (to the other thread), but you can find them under "owner's manual pdf?" or message me and i'll send you the pdfs.

cheers

Just read that manual. It sounds like aquite a complicated gearbox to me. I would be worried about going into a gear while trying to go into reverse. How is the car when you just leave it totally in automatic? Do you have to actually take foor off accelerator pedal between the car changing gears?

i wouldn't know, as i don't pick mine up until saturday morning, but i've definitely got a different impression than you. doesn't sound complicated at all to me, and i can't see how you could find yourself in gear when trying to go to reverse (it's a very deliberate motion to get into reverse, as it is with many manual cars). as for taking your foot of the accelerator, after reading the supplement, i'd say no, you don't need to do that, but i could be wrong.

See my post in the "£3k at Motorpoint" thread. It's a brilliant piece of engineering. Far superior to the semi-automatic in the Smart car for example.

If you can drive a normal auto, you can drive one of these.

JinjaNinja,

Thanks for getting back to me. Ths saturday hopefully ill get to take one out on the road and see what they are like. Sat in one on Sunday it was the Lounge version. My GF really liked it but thinks in Australia it might not be practical as has very little rear seat room.

Is dualogic the same as in the Smart - if so, I found it very very scary and sold it on within 6 months.

Same idea, but the Dualogic is FAR more sophisticated than the Smart. The Smart gearbox was quite horrific by comparison.

I wouldn't use a 500 for regular full new-ish family use. It's brilliant as a runabout for 1 or 2 people and occasional rear use. When the boys are bigger and can just use a booster seat I can see the 500 getting more family trips.

I was a manual, Grande Punto owner until about 2 weeks ago.

Swapped the diesel for a smaller, duologic 500 and I'm absolutely thrilled.

It's so much more relaxing. I don't know whether it's because of the lighter steering and the fact the car is a petrol, but the duologic gear box for me is a massive plus.

In traffic for example - in the Punto you'd have to keep your foot on the clutch and brake and be alert to keeping it in gear one, for fear of getting horned by the guy behind you in case you left the hand-break up and took your foot off the clutch.

For some reason, in the duologic, you can take your foot off the break when you're on a flat road surface, and the car won't move, front or back. You stay stationery! My foot already feels healed.

Brilliant gearbox. Had no problems.
