ok, so i read somewhere that in britain, the majority of consumer orders for the 500 are and will be the sport model. i dunno why, but i guess us british are a grand sporting nation none the less. shame about the football today tho; with becks being back and all - anyway i digress..
why is it people have gone for the sport version. what does it have over say the lounge which i have gone for. my main reason for the lounge was the choice of the ivory trim. it does look far more retro and keeping with the whole 500 revival theme. also the sunroof looks good both inside and outside in my opinion. i liked the idea of the sport model, but couldn't live with the black interior and pointless superficial 'sporty' dials etc. in addition the spoiler barely stands out and doesn't improve the handling (tho i read, makes a huge difference to drag coefficient) so is hardly worth it i think anyway. having an illuminated boot and vanity mirrors is very useful in the dark however.
so in this thread, i ask and WITHOUT the need for a battle as to which is better, why did you choose sport; why choose lounge, or even pop. (y)

I went for neither.....

I didn't like the black abience, so the Sport was ruled out.

I didn't like the seat material in the Lounge, that left me with the Pop!!!

When the wife orders one, which I'd say is 50:50 possibility at the moment, it's most likely be an Orange Lounge with Vintage leather interior.

I ordered a Pop (1.2). Because Fiat 500 is meant to be a basic affordable 'people' car. It is the 'look' of the car from the outside that makes people smile, not the gadgets on the inside.

I drive REAL Minis, which are very spartan inside .. and the FUN is the driving experience. I would love an old Fiat 500, but I wouldn't want to use it every day and they are very rare, hence expensive.

SO, here I have the PERFECT solution. The New Fiat 500. POP - Modern Retro car, afordable and useable! Nothing against Lounge or Sport, but I wanted leather as it lasts better than fabric and don't use aircon... I have windows with wind deflectors! Don't like the rear spoiler as I like the shape of the car without, don't like blacked out windows.

That said - I added chrome pack and body coloured mirrors.. for the look.

Two sleeps to go .......:)

From talking to the dealer in Western Australia (and I'd guess the rest of Oz) the Lounge is by far the most popular. Interestingly here it's also $1000 more than the sport (see http://editorial.carsales.com.au/car-review/2882793.aspx). I'm not aware of any spec difference for the model between here and the UK.

Perhaps if the Lounge was priced more in the UK it would be more popular?

I chose the Lounge because I wanted the ivory dash and to spec the Pop up would have cost too much, and the Lounge would still have had more kit. Also come selling time a Lounge will get more back than a specced up Pop as extras dont add to value of a used car.

I didn't like the interior in the lounge, much too retro for me and white leather wheel a definite no no.

I went for the sport because I like the black interior, the part "faux" leather upholstery, the rear spoiler is just enough without being over the top, we specced a fixed glass roof as an option and from memory some of the other options were more desirable than the ones on the lounge.....it was a long time ago now so I can't recall what they were.

Nice to have such flexible options on the spec though so everyone can get something that suits them. We were originally looking at a pop with loads of extras, then relised the sport had pretty much everything we wanted plus some extras for much the same price.

After weighing up, i chose the sport. I didnt like the seating material on the lounge so wanted to upgrade to leather, i liked the seats on the pop the best but liked the luxuries such as blue&me etc. As i liked the seats in the sport, i chose that and got it spec'd with a glass roof and chrome kit to match the lounge model, but the sport also comes with a few extras over the lounge like a spoiler, fog lights, kickplates and it worked out cheaper also for me than buying a lounge.

I went for Sport as I'm used to sporty spec cars and prefer the sharper drive with the sport springs and sport button. I'm on the list for an Abarth but couldn't wait to next year so took a Sport as a stop gap. But if the Alfa Mito drives well, I might move to one of those ...

I am thinking of a small home-to-work car and get to fall in love with the 500. I like the Sport more than the Lounge, although I can afford both and it is only $1000 difference, are the free dark tint window, no sunroof, red brake caliper (although I can do it myself), and rear spoiler. The things I like in the lounge, though, are the climate control and the seat height adjustability.

Going to dealer to look at it tomorrow

Let's not forget. We were all so excited about the 500 arriving in the UK, all rushed to our dealers and launch parties. What was available to look at in the flesh? .. Three cars .. 2 x lounge and 1 x sport. No Pop. More people might have ordered a Pop if they had seen one. Our dealer recently had a lovely 'standard' red Pop, white ambience, only with the upgraded wheel trims. Very cute, very retro. Having seen that I would have ordered one!

I went for the Sport and I prob would have went for it even if my dealer had a Pop demo car. It was either Retro or Sporty, so I've tried to combine both and its come out looking great :)

I'll more than likely get the Abarth in the future, but for the time being, this 500 is doing me fine, I love it (y)

The 1.4s get the sport button and stiffer springs regardless if it is a Pop, Lounge or Sport. They are trim levels only and all drive the same.

We prefer the Sport trim which is why we have ordered one, but all very subjective.

we test drove a 1.4 sport, wanted a 1.4 sport, went back to dealer to buy a 1.4 sport . . .in white. . but with full chrome, as retro as could go with a sport

but then there was this cha cha azure 1.4 lounge in the showroom, fixed sunroof, chrome, seats that complimented the paint, not too modern looking alloys, no window tinting and it all just clicked.

And we could drive it away within a few days!

Really happy with the car, the sunroof is great, really opens up the car on a sunny day. Interior feels light & airy, and it's a good - ish ride, while the sport on 16" wheels we road tested felt dark, pokey and skittish

I bought a black 1.4 lounge with black ambiance and red leather. I was attracted to the glass roof. I also specced the 16" O-wheels. Also the chrome goodies appealed to me. They contrast nicely with the black. I have no rational reason for ordering this spec, I just liked it.

After ordering I thought I should be somewhat practical and verify that I wasn't getting cheated out of anything by going lounge over sport. It seemed not. The mechanical package seems the same, the toys weren't much different.

I subsequently noticed that the spec sheet when I ordered wasn't completely true. For instance, at the time of order there was mention that the sport came with a passengers handle (above the door) and the lounge didn't. My lounge arrived with one. Also the rear seats aren't supposed to be split-fold and yet when they arrived they were. Apparently all leather interiors do this. None of this should be taken as having a go at Fiat, quite the contrary, it added more mystery and surprise to an already pleasant way way to part with almost 12 grand :)

hate to admit it, but the standard 1.2 pop, in silver particularly does look very bland . . .

I was keen to keep it retro, so no 16" Halfords style wheels for me, no stripes, no bodykits

Bring on the 2 cylinder, in 'skinny' trim, 14 inch steelies, no toys blah blah blah

Ok, dont tell the Brava, its been known to get jealous, but ive been looking at the 1.4 Lounge as a possible replacement, I dont need something as big as the Brava or the new Bravo and its spec list is a pretty good match towards the new Bravo and a hefty bit cheaper so Im thinking its getting the nod.
