Rather than go the 'traditional' inertial reel belt setup, I've decided to get some more 'period correct' lap belts. I don't like the low angle for the shoulder harness and, let's be honest, these are more to keep you secure while driving, not in a crash where there's no crumple zones and you've got a fuel tank in your lap.

I'm going with a set of 3" lap belts with 'duck bill' latches that were the norm in 60's race cars and provide a pretty decent hold.

Does anyone know the bolt sizes (and threads?) for both the floor and shoulder attachment points? I'll likely pickup new hardware, but need to search for a cap of sorts for the shoulder point, so I'm not left with an unfinished bolt hole.

Thanks!

Is there not a 'captive' nut about 1/2 way up the piller just behind the door for a set-belt bolt Matt? I have a 'L' with "inertia, lap 'n diagonal" belts and the shoulder part of the belt comes in just above my shoulder. I will try and get a photo for you.

Tom, there is, but it comes out at about armpit level or a little higher on me - I’m 6’. Additionally, there’s something wrong with the passenger side one, as it’s somewhat loose in the whole and has a bit of safety wire on it. I’m going to repurpose them as attachment points for a cargo net that will span the bolts and attach to the floor, to keep our dogs in the back seat when we take them on drives. They have a propensity to make moves to the lap of whomever is in the passenger seat.

Got the old belts out and prepped the surfaces for the reinforcement plates. Once those arrive, bolt everything in. The pass side shoulder bolt was a ******. The boss had broken off the panel, so the bolt could turn freely. I had to cut the head off the bolt in order to remove the belt, so I could cut the bolt short enough to fish it out backwards. For now, I’ll have to find a plug to fit that hole, so my plan to reuse the bolt as a cargo net hook is on hold. Either way, that would’ve prevented me from installing shoulder belts no matter what, so it’s a good thing I’m going with just lap belts.

Hit the primer with some gloss white just to mask it a bit. After a few miles it should blend in perfectly. ?

New lap belts installed. The wife thinks it’s “a bit much” but I say it’s “period correct”. Either way, they’re far more secure than the originals and hold the adjustment.
