Tuning Canterbury 695

I will do in time
I hoped all along to do "on the run" mods
It just didn't go that way from 1 hour after buying it and breaking it!
Works to complete before MOT:
Rear discs
Braided hoses
Updated master cylinder
Independent front suspension
Oil cooler hoses

Running mods planned:
Rear coil overs
Strut brace
Bolt on wheel arches
Hard top fitting

A very successful evening removing \ cutting off the spring hangers
Quick reapplication of underseal tomorrow should see the front suspension frame fitted
Next up - the steel reinforced pads for the shock absorber top mount
Nearly Andrew nearly.....

Oh and then the fun of selecting which exhaust to run. I have three to choose between
I have a straightforward sports exhaust, a CSC stainless one and then a very expensive carbon fiber Italian race exhaust - probably very loud and flames....
???

On the subject of rear coil over suspension - does anyone know of a reputable setup / supplier that has been used by anyone?

They seem far less common than I'd of thought.

Morning Andrew;
Ricambio International (Franco Roselli) do a rear 'coil-over' kit especially for the 500. I have a (Polish) mate who does all sorts of naughty things to 126s, I will ask him where he gets his rear coil-overs from.

Hi tom
I try to avoid the UK suppliers for there prices and charges are exorbitant
My from suspension was £250 cheaper from Axel Gerstl
With these differentials there's money to saved shopping abroad

Well that was easier than I thought
Gazcoil do a pair for under £200
Just wonder if the same reinforcing will be needed as per the front

Hi Andrew;
Before you rush out and spend your hard-earned dosh, my Polish friend is sending me some details of the units he uses. Poland is big in modifying 126
cars and some of the gear coming out of the country is quite good. However, Gaz rear coil-overs at £200 a pair (exc. VAT?) is a good price. I think that you will definitely need some additional support for the top damper mount. On the original fitment, only the damper load was going through the top mount, but with coil-overs the damper AND spring loads are going through the top mount. Have you put a cross-brace on the front, top damper mounts? Again, you will be putting all the spring and damper loads through what was only designed to take (basically) vertical damper loads.

Reinforcing plates arriving here at work in ten minutes!
Held off buying a cross brace as I had intended to fit it later to see if it improves things
Could buy it now - is it an essential steIght away - or something to retro fit?

For the rear reinforcing - I have a spare pair of Spring bases and was considering fabricating something with these as a starting point......what do you reckon?

Andrew, regarding electric fuel pumps, I am using a PIERBURG type -
7.21440.51.0 (E1F) the flow volume is 95L per hour at a pressure of 0.10 bar. It draws less that 2 Amps and I have it running a Weber 30 DGF with no return line. It runs just fine with no flooding. The pump is mounted next to the spare wheel below the level of the tank so it will self prime, and it runs all the time when the ignition is on.

Andrew, on the subject of exhaust choice, I chose a CSC stainless three piece affair that fitted direct to the head - no adaptors needed. the parts are manifold adaptors, then down tubes (2 into 1) and finally the silencer (not that it is very quiet!!) everything is held together with strong springs and you get a small plug that can be bolted into the end pipe for MOT time!!! It turns a lovely colour when hot!! If I remember rightly the down tubes are 30mm into a 50mm into the silencer with a 60mm end pipe. sounds gorgeous!!!

Ian
I have an Italian sourced system that has similar down pipe arrangements as yours into a carbon fibre Giannelli superbike silencer with removable baffles and the steel tubes have been coated in a very expensive heatproof zircon coating to reduce engine bay temperatures
YouTube films have flames and great sound
CSC was a second hand purchase after advice from Middle Barton's Tony Castle Miller
Good to have options - sell on the unwanted

Got my self confused!
I have a Galassetti exhaust with a Zircotec coating.....

Ian - out of interest what drove you to install an electric fuel pump?
Was the flow from the mechanical one deemed too low?
I'm aware that fitting an electric item reduces engine bay noise but this is only a a secondary benefit

Hi Andrew;
I have sent an e-mail directly to you with regard to rear 'coil-overs'. There is an attachment to the e-mail with all the details.

Andrew, The car came with the pump fitted, the original pump has been removed and the mounting blanked off. My car has a lot 126 BIS parts (704cc) so I think along with the weber carb the builder preferred the electric option. I have to say that the flow from the pump suits the engine even when flat out and I have never had problems with hot starting or flooding. If you search on ebay there is a chap in Germany (I think) selling the pump at a good knock down price, it's for a Lancia Y10 I believe. if you need photos of my installation let me know.

Ian.

Busy day - after cutting off spring hangers - fitted steel reinforcing pads to shock top mounts.
Copious amounts of rust protector............
then fitted new suspension...
Took no more than 30 mins.
Will set ride height in the morning.
Cannot decide wether to upgrade braking system before MOT
Got a box of shiny bits - braided hoses - uprated master cylinder and rear discs
