Hi all, first post! Had quite bad bearing noise in the gearbox, suspected diff bearings. I have begun stripping the box and gotten to the stage of removing the nuts at the end of the input and output shafts. I have removed the split pins and tried turning them left to loosen. No joy. I tried turning them right in case they were left hand thread. No Joy. Should these be this tight? Thanks for any advice. P.S. The hardening on some rollers had gone on the diff so I plan to replace all bearings

I've attached a photo of the gearbox internals - which bit is giving you trouble?

If you are stripping the gearbox/diff, replacing all of the bearings with good quality ones is a sensible move.

Chris

Hi Bambino, It was the nuts on the end of the input and output shafts. I used a rattle gun and got them off, no damage thank goodness. Also found when I pulled the output (pinion) shaft out the bearing had started to seperate in the cage! Probably good time for a rebuild. My camera batteries are flat so I will try and post a pic tomorrow. P.S. Enjoyed your resto :)
