OK first off i'm new here, so Hi in advance, I recently purchased a 1982 spider 2000, i'm doing the fix the broken oil pump routine due to a dented oil pan. So i went to install the fixed oil pump and the gasket between the oil pump and block is not correct for the engine... i have a fel pro set for a 79 to 82 2.0 spider 2000, but it's not right.

the numbers i found on the block. (that i could see) are:

4377455 (the 4 could be an A)
132 RC43019 there are numbers or letters after the 9 but i can't read them

also it seems to have a manual fuel pump on the side of the block (no lines connected) yet the car is a fuel injected model...

any info???? thanks in advance!

no one has any info?

Re: Engine info. think i have a different engine than the original? HELP

Check those numbers again, but the second number is 90% of the way to being the right number for an injection model Spider 2000 - however it could also quite possibly be the begining of a 1756 carb model from a FIAT 124 - which would explain your dilemma - maybe.
Confused ?
Check the numbers again (y)

hmmm makes me wonder... there is a fuel pump on the side of the block (i assume thats what it is) and in the trunk when i bought it there was a holley carb in it... the 1756 model is that a poor engine swap if so?

Re: Engine info. think i have a different engine than the original? HELP

Well I'm not as concerned about why it was put in, as to what the hp difference is. I've been searching the sites I know but I'm still new to fiat stuff and I can't find any hp info on the different models.

Re: Engine info. think i have a different engine than the original? HELP

The 1756 (1800) should pop out about 128bhp @ 6200 and the 1995 (2000) about 105. But the 2000 was a torquey engine and in injection form pretty smooth running.
I'd have the 1800 myself as more free revving and more in the spirit of the car (y)
I think you've had a transplant of some kind, it could be an 1800 unit. Can you try and find those numbers more clearly?

Re: Engine info. think i have a different engine than the original? HELP

yea but it's been crappy weather i'll try tomorrow..btw its a WEBER carb not holley... as for info i saw that they say the 2000 motor aka 1995 is 102 and is the second highest rating on hp. the non-emissions 70's years being the highest and everything else was 98 hp etc. found on www.spidercenter.com in the buying guide section.. is this factual or wrong info i found?

Re: Engine info. think i have a different engine than the original? HELP

Information about engines is usually only as good as the country it comes from - USA spec cars have very different ranges of BHP due to the emmisions gear but the guys at that site are, I'm sure, best placed to advise you.
Once those numbers are clearer it should be relatively straight forward to find out what's what ;)

Re: Engine info. think i have a different engine than the original? HELP

Sounds like this engine has had an Injection head fitted to a carb block, so for parts, order for earlier engine.
124 1800 had 118bhp due to better cams over lesser 1800 engines.
124 abarth had 128bhp, again due to cams and twin 44 carbs.
Federal engines in USA were alot lower in power due to all the emissions. This is one reason why the engines got a supercharger on the last few Spyders made.

Re: Engine info. think i have a different engine than the original? HELP

Well they just did away with emissions here in ohio.. so... how hard is it to remove this emissions gear?.. Is it removeable for a hp gain? Also FI cars compared to the carb. hp gains?

As for the ingection head on a carb block I dunno since I bought the car and the carb was in the trunk. It makes me think that the previous owner just swapped the carb or something for the FI system. But if so is this a wise set up. FI head on a carb block? I read something about when the timing chain goes the fuel pump cracks the block on the 2000? However, you can grind off the pump lobe or something to prevent this, but there were no directions on how to do this..

I think the emission thing is more than just a spacer in the exhaust, it'll be softer profile cam's, smaller more restrictive manifold, different fueling, less compression. etc etc
