new wombles campaign against all the imported american kids tv programmes!

Personally I think this kind of campaign is rather feeble. TV programmes are market driven like everything else in the media, so if the standard of UK made kids programmes was high and popular amongst viewers then there'd be no need to import stuff. More likely that when there were more UK kids programmes being made a lot weren't as popular as the foreign imports.

Besides, this is nothing new. In the early 70's when the Wombles were popular another very popular programme was the US made 'Banana Splits', and those were made in the late 60's! We also had 'Skippy the Bush Kangaroo' from Australia, and don't forget that 'Tom and Jerry', 'Scooby Doo', 'Bugs Bunny' and all the other programmes from Hanna Barbera/ Walt Disney/ Warner Bros. (Looney Tunes) were all from America.

Really those mourning the lack of UK made kids programmes should stop whining, get off their bums and go and make some programmes that kids actually want to watch and that TV companies want to buy.

have you seen whats on childrens television programmes? it's dominated by repeats and CGI programmes, and most of these are american.

this was when they launched the two new childrens programmes. announcing a "golden age" of childrens entertainment! whats happened to that? can you name any notable childrens tv programmes that are on now and popular!? has there been any new programmes to rival the teletubbies, trumpton, bagpuss, clangers, maid marian, fireman sam, postman pat, CHARLIE CHALK!(thanks BBS), and other big childrens tv programmes.

what they're getting at is that instead of new ideas and new programmes they're putting on repeats and buying foreign programmes. whilst their have been some notable bought tv programmes such as the magic roundabout, the standard of the current ones is terrible and very american, eg. Lazytown!
