Nice work so far, looks like it is tighter than expected, but is going to work! .....You might consider putting a hole/holes over the top half of the plate recess and having the plate on the bottom half, leaving half of it overhanging.

hmmmm with regards to number plate would a small plate on the nearside be ok? one of the square two row motorbike style ones, don't the alfa 156s have that?

It should all be in the workshop manual. I remember reading about this junction/switch. There isn't a 3rd party Y10 workshop manual. You have all the printed info on Turbos.
