Panda (Classic) My 4x4 - The Muddy Pics!

Introduction

Hey everyone as I've only just joined I thought I'd post some more pictures to show you lovely lot what we're all about up here in the bleak North.

Both me and my mate have Pandas, mine's the '87 and his the '89, both Italian Racing Grey.

As I've previously said, although we put the Pandas through their paces we take good care of the old lasses because we want the fun to keep coming.

I hope you enjoy the pics as much as we enjoy making them! :D

Some of these pics are from a while ago, I'll get some new ones up soon :)
I went out early doors this morning with my cousin to do his 6-monthly check of the local Barn Owl population as part of a BTO survey.

Some of the Owl boxes are becoming hard to access now with the lanes cut up and field tracks overgrown, his Fiesta is a bit out of it's depth, so we took Hadrian. It was a lovely bright morning...

All is well with the Owls, they are amazing birds. We were lucky enough to find a pair of young chicks in one box, I was lucky enough to help him ring them! The first time I have ever held a wild Barn Owl chick :)

These two fuzzy little ones were 36 and 41 days old.

We are looking forward to meeting them again soon, when they will hopefully have grown up and have families of their own.

Just a small update as I've just got around to getting some pictures sorted.

These are from three weeks ago when I met up with the North Yorkshire GLASS Rep (Green Lanes Association) for a look at a few lanes in the area. We went out for them to photograph the lanes for archive purposes as one has recently been re-opened after a significant time on the closed list, this is the infamous "Dead Man's Hill" near Scar House. It's a 1:4 incline with a big rock step in the middle, the rep's 90 and Discovery didn't make it up - but we did ;)

These lanes will be run on on my forthcoming weekend around Christmas time.

What makes the difference Andy.?

Only thing I noticed yesterday was that our slimmer track, over the 90s, may have given us a few more options on tyre paths.

Torque at the tyre to weight being pushed..?

I'm impressed, and to be honest, surprised. But I would like to understand 'why?'.

In this situation Andy it's just as you say, the track of the vehicle. On this incline I could jump out of the ruts onto the middle so was't dragging, but alot of it is the speed aswell, the Landys have low box and diff lock, where as I have first gear so on a hill the power has to be used straight away. The 90 would have got up using plenty of power, but she would have run the risk of damaging it getting stuck in those ruts.

Sorry I've not been on for a while, I'm still alive and Pandaring!!

A couple of updates on Hadrian, exploded CV joint on the prop shaft on Halloween. Had to set to at the side of the road taking it off dressed as a Zombie. Then a bit of off-roading last night at a bonfire party, pulling stuck vehicles out of a wet field, including a Freelander and a long-wheelbase Transit, the Panda 4x4s are just unstoppable...

Nice to see your panda dominating mate :) (y)

Not strictly related, but I have a song I sing every time I see a more modern car broken down or on the back of a recovery truck,

"And the Panda Marches On"

I saw a range rover today on the back of a breakdown truck. So funny when people at my work tell me my car is a crapbox and their modern cars break down or need massive billed repairs regularly. Suddenly PTP is ok to go in when they need a lift :ROFLMAO:

Ahh they don't deserve a lift ;) seems like they need to come down a couple of notches until they can know where the party's at

A small update as Hadrian's case is currently worsening. The list is slightly longer now as his head gasket now needs replacing aswell as a wheelbearing and a replacement wiper arm, as it came off and has gone missing!

In other news though, the Italy trip is to be organised in the new year with a small get-together in January for even planning. Watch this space for more info.
