Technical new Panda 1.2 engine

Technical new Panda 1.2 engine

I've a 1.2 Eleganza. I'm crap with a camera, but I'll give it a try at the weekend.
Meanwhile, get yourself the new Haynes manual. Hopefully the pics in there will help too.

As promised, I've taken a few pics. They're a bit disappointing, so may not be of much use. The Haynes pic uses a Euro 5 engine. Mine is a Euro 4 with throttle cable, so mine should be like yours should be.

Mine also has aircon, so the coolant tank is on the inner wing, rather than being part of the radiator and there is the aircon compressor behind the engine where without it would be a hole with the alternator below.

Suggest when you get a powertrain, you then ask questions and I, or others will try to give specific answers.

I was hoping to PM or email the pics, to save bogging down this thread, but can't see how to attach pics to either option. So here they are, everyone laugh. (Give me the best camera, I'll give you mediocre pics) Nokia phone, 8megapixies.

Tell us where you are in the country, someone near you might be able to pop round occasionally so that you can compare, as you build it.

Hi

Many thanks for these photos they will definately be useful points of reference, and they are quite clear. Can you tell where abouts the earth connection from the battery is attached to the body of the car?

Many thanks again

Gary

Can you tell where abouts the earth connection from the battery is attached to the body of the car?

More difficult than you'd hope.
The earth cable leaves the battery, travels down behind the battery, then forward under it, under its outer edge, then vertically down to a bolt on the chassis leg. This is the orange bolt head in the pic, (upper one of the two). (Yes the car is all orange) The bolt forward of this is an earth point for other stuff, useful when you need it.
The cable then continues down a little, then across towards the right side of the car and then back to the top of the gearbox somewhere. I can't see where on the gearbox it attaches, I would need to remove the battery and tray to see.
I hope this is enough so far, as I do not really want to remove battery and tray as currently all is well under there.

Hi

Many thanks for the information. this should be enough thanks - please don't dismantle your car for me!

Kind regards

Gary

The electronic PCB associated with the power steering system with have to be 'matched' to the new ECU for the replacement engine. When a power steering reconditioner carries out a rebuild he also requires the ECU to be forwarded for 'matching up' the new electronic PCB to the ECU...Think about it!
In a past post on the Punto model somebody was asking for an alternative oil to the Tutela 75 Syn for the manual transmission. The same oil is specified for my 2006 Panda 1.2 and I have used Valvoline SYNpower GL-4/5 75w-90 in the gearbox, and also every 5000 miles changed the engine oil using Valvoline Durablend 10W-40.
I ran my 1996 Cinquecento for 123,00 miles using Valvoline Durablend without any engine faults and it still had the original catalyser fitted when I sold it on purchasing my new Panda.

Hi

Many thanks for the informaton - The car comes with the orginal ECU/etc - why if just replaciing the engine for an identical one to that which was removed will I need to change the ECU - you mention that the power steering circuit board will need to be matched to it - its surley already matched to the exisiting ECU? Thanks

Existing ECU and steering control are already matched. As long as the engine you fit uses the same ECU type, you can use the original one. If you source a different engine that needs a different ECU, it will all have to be matched.

Does anyone know, will MultiECUscan do this?

Thanks for this confirmation about the ECU. I was hoping this would be the case!

Hi All

Time for an update on my engine fitting saga! I have now fitted the engine, and have had it running for a short while. Not only was the wiring loom miising from the engine bay, but literally every connection under the dashboard had been disconnected what a mess! I have managed to get everything working again with the exception of the heater blower for some reason - its reconnected seems to have a live feed, but not working - any ideas welcome.

Instrument panel shows 174 miles........

I have also discovered that some parts may be/are missing from the engine I bought - One part seems to be the electro valve for the EVAP pipe. There are 2 'mystery wiring plugs which dont seem to go anywhere - the first 1 I think, goes to the missing valve, but not sure where the other should go. I have attached a photo here in the hope that someone might know where it goes, and what else may be missing that it fits to.

It seems virtually impossible to get an EVAP electro valve secondhand - so if anyone knows where I can get one......

Many thanks for any observations/advice

Gary

EVAP generally means Evaporate? So an Evaporate pipe.. No idea where this would be on the panda.

Hi

If you look in the engine bay, there is the black fuel supply pipe and a second blue one. This geos to an electro valve which sits in a chamber below the throttle body. According to my Haynes manuel this is the EVAP system - it seems most modern cars have them. Since it goes back to the fuel tank, I assume that its a fuel vapour/excess fuel return system, All I really know is its missing from my engine and I need one.........:D

I have attached a photo here of the EVAP pipe, one of me pointing to the evap chamber and one of the inside of the evap chamber...

Thanks

Gary

Hi All

Can anyone photograph the 2007 panda throttle body for me please? I know it means removing the air cleaner so no probelm if its not poss.

I need to confirm for sure where that blue pipe from the fuel tanks actually fits on the engine - I thought it fitted onto that idle control valve as I now know it to be... but now not sure. Also would like a point of reference for all the electrical conections on the throttle body, as I seem to have a plug with nowhere to go....

Many thanks for any observations

Gary

Hi

Many thanks for the observation - this one has a throttle cable.
