Hi, I have just refitted my engine into my 1.5 as part of its restoration. However I recall the starter motor is playing up. It turns the engine the 1st time but then sticks. If I tap if with a hammer it runs again but then sticks again. I have removed it twice to clean the bendix and the shaft, I have also opened it & cleaned the brushes etc, but it still sticks.
Any ideas or should I just look to get it repaired or replace it? Does anybody know of a firm in the South Wales area (UK) that can overhall it or does anyboday have a good spare they wish to sell?

Many thanks.

Hi Kawakiman.
You should remove the starter once again and change bushing and bearing. Take also care of the unit that shoots out the bendix, it will sometimes get stuck and cause problems.
Regards from Iceland.

Thanks Icecool, I have now stripped it down and put it all back but is still the same. Guess I will have to get it reconditioned if I can't find a replacement.
