:bang::bang:Hello
Iam looking to see if any of you ever had this crazy light problem.
well I replaced the ignition switch on my 1886 fiat bertone X19 well i think the fist time i hooked it up i crossed some wires from the 4 big wires that are on the ignition switch to the car. well i blew Ecm and some fuses. I have replaced all the fuse and isntalled a working Ecm and the car started fine but when i turned the switch to the light the head lights flop up and down non stop unil you take the keys out. well I have checked the relays i even tested them and they are good( well at list i think there good) I used my multi meter and a 12volt power supply to test them out.
any way is there any one out there with any advice. Dose anyone know if there any other fuse or what controls the headlight up and down motion.
thanks
Jorge:confused:

Very common problem, and while it seems unlikely that both have gone at once it usually seems to work out that way. First get your manual and find out which fuses govern the headlights then check them just to be sure. If those fuses are fine then you need to take the headlight motors themselves out.

On each motor there are two resistors that wind the motor around to go up and down and it's quite common for them to break off their mounts completely. Some quick soldering and a few replacement resistors should solve your problems. Best off replacing all of them at once to save being counter productive.

Bugger, knew it was one of them but it's been so long since I've done mine. Thanks for that.

I shall now attempt to save myself by showing you a picture of the wiring on the motors (diodes circled in red):

If they are constantly going up and down you have the wrong relays in situ'.
in the fusebox.
The headlight motors are run by two relays that use a fifth pin (87a) located in E5 and E3 in your fuse box.

Thanks for all the advise you guys :slayer: l
Can you tell me the size or what or were i can get them at. How hard is it to take the light motor off? Ill be removing them tomorrow ill post has soon as iam done . guy again thanks alot.(y)

The diodes are pretty standard stuff, I think the code was 1N4004 and you can get them anywhere that sells electronic circuit stuff for a few cents a piece.

Getting the motors out is easy and its pretty much exactly like you'd think, it's getting them back in that's the hard part because you can either see where your hands are, or touch the bolts but the choice is yours :D

Once you get them back in turn the lights on and they will probably wind into an incorrect 'up' position, so turn them off and let them settle then go take the arm off the motor and lower the headlight fully before reattaching it and they should be in the right position!

Good luck and let us know if you have any problems because I'm quite sure everyone here has done this before.

Ok thanks again
Ill post as soon as i replace the diodes. woul anyone have a picture of the ignition switch plug. i would like to makr sure mine4 is hooked up right.
