Hi
I am new to this Forum etc, but I am a proud owner of a Sting 45 and have been for years. I have never had any trans problems in the last roughly 8 or so years with the car, but recently today I was driving as usual and realised about 500 meters in I left the handbrake on (which I rarely do) anyways I kept driving after putting it off and the transmission just went, the gearstick went all loose it almost felt as if the connection was severed. However, when I forced it in the process of limping home on a busy friday night I managed to kinda find the gears in a way so I could keep driving from traffic lights etc.
I was wondering if any of you can give me some immediate advice (as it is nighttime now) before I undergo any major mechanical stuff. Not that the mechanics is an issue, I am just utterly confused as to what has happened.

Thanks for any responses

Hi,is the gear lever loose side to side.can you get any gears at all?hopefully it just a linkage problem.
If there is play, get some one to move the gear lever so you can fill where the play is coming from.

I can force it into gear and hold it there manually but the gearstick almost feels as if it isnt connected to anything. You can kinda feel around and get it into gear. Its very strange and as its raining I cant get under the car without lying in a puddle, The transmission obviously isnt gone, I agree it must be a link thats gone at some stage, I will just have to follow the shaft and look by eye.

If it has the rod linkages under the car (I think there are two types on the Uno), the little plastic bushes can fall apart or fall off altogether. Cheap to replace.
