Re: Uno temperature?

it should sit at 90 degrees or lower (centre point on the dial).

if its going over this then the chances are that the rad fan doesnt work or the rad itself is buggered. the fan should come on between around 85-95 degrees and the car shouldnt get any hotter once its started cutting in.

if it does then somethings wrong with the rest of the system. just bellow the red is bad! get stuck in traffic and your fooked

i suggest checking the fan first. bridge the connections on the fan switch connector (the green looking thing bolted to the side of the rad). You will need to turn the ignition on for this aswell. but when you bridge the connectors, the fan should turn on. if it doesnt, your fan is buggered.

if it does, clean out the system by running water through the rad and so on for a while to clean all the crap out, then put in a new lot of coolant and see if that helps, also poss replace the thermo and even the rad if nothing else helps.

Re: Uno temperature?

As an emergency measure turn the heater on full heat, and the fan on full blast. You'd be surprised how much heat that will take out of the system.

My Uno 45 FIRE sits on or just above the mark all the time, but on a hot day after a longish run at full speed, with a sudden and extended slow down it will get over the mark by a fair amount, but not enough to get worrying.

Re: Uno temperature?

think i have sorted it now, checked the water and it was quite low so hopefully that was the cause of it

Re: Uno temperature?

If your cooling system is in good condition there is no reason why the temperature should ever go much past 90 degrees C. My uno overheated on several occasions and it was down to different things.

1.Connections to electric fan (as mentioned above)

2.Faulty sticking thermostat

3.Oil and water levels (with plenty of antifreeze in water)

4.Head gasket failure (probably was a consequence of the above on my car)

I hope topping up the water has fixed it for you, but if the problem recurrs you might want to investigate some of the points here. Also keep your eye on the temp as running hot is not good for the engine as it has an alloy head which tends to warp quite easily.

Best of luck

Phil
