Hi am hoping someones heard of this..
I started up my 1991 SXie no probs this morning but then had to duck into the house. When I went to restart the uno I could hear the starter motor going but she won't turn over.
I get a flashing handbrake light on the dash - apparantly a general warning.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Just a shot in the dark here, the light , like as not , is also a general "Brakes" type warning and it's likely that your brake fluid is low and has possibly activated an "interlock" preventing the car from being driven in that state??????

If it is obviously top up the fluid but then also find out why it's low , check the inside of your wheels for evidence of a leak.

This can also point to low pads. Check pads for wear first and replace them. Otherwise, you'll top up the brake fluid, find out that the pads are low, go to replace the pads, push the cylinders back and have an overflow of fluid.
