Hi,
I did a search in the forum but couldn't find anything that exactly describes the problem my Uno 1100 Fire has.
When I got home tonight I went to reverse into the garage and the gear leaver went really floppy, (from side to side). I have the gear box that you have to press down on the lever to select reverse. I think it's the Mk2 box? Anyway, I seem to have forward gears but no reverse! I lifted the gear lever boot but can't see that anything is broken. The Haynes manual is no help either, as that section on the gearbox/linkage seems to be missing! I'm hoping this is just a broken bush in the linkage and not a gearbox problem. The gearbox has always been smooth and quiet during the 7 years I've owned the car.
Any suggestions as to what this could be would be a great help. I'm going to have a closer look at it tomorrow.
Thanks.

If the gear lever has gone floppy side the side, it would indicate that one the bushes has snapped, either right at the gearbox selector or just where the bar to the gearlever pokes out into the engine bay. I would expect you might not get any gear other than 3rd or 4th?

Thanks for the reply. As soon as I opened the bonnet the next morning after posting on the forum the cause of the gear selection problem was immediately obvious, the bracket on top of the gearbox that holds the selector rod was cracked and about to fall off! You were right, I could only get 3rd and 4th gears. I took the bracket off and had it welded, reinstalled it and now the gear change is the best it's been in months! Obviously this crack was there for some time and getting worse. Thanks for the help.
