NICE ONE (y)

!BnlIMe!!mk~$(KGrHqUH-CkEtsezh84JBLkB9P)eg!~~_12.JPG

Get it home
Swap your BRAND NEW CAT over from the one that just passed its MOT and take this new red one for an MOT test I say

Congratulations Ucof!

Hope it turns out to be as good as it sounds (y)

Saying that, you do know that you will need to invest in a gallon of T-Cut and remember that buying Unos is addictive. Soon you'll find yourself buying more and you'll end up with three like me, or two like Jai and enough spares to build at least three others :p

That, is a damn good plan Joolz, and one I had not thought of. :D
I had the idea of replacing my known knackered dizzy with the one on the car now, then ringing the RAC and having them tow me all the way home to Wales. :)

Hopefully going to get it tomorrow.

I reckon as long as I get it booked in for an MOT, with written confirmation, that if I do get pulled over by the police for no MOT, I can argue that I am taking it to my local MOT station for a test on Monday.
As long as I have insurance for it, it should all be ok. :)

Now, to start the list of little things that I need to do to it :D

NaH!
I love that aged patina
Of course you all know I would keep it as it is
I like my cars showing there age...

So long as it is taxed and insured and there is nothing totally illegal, such as bald tyres, [instant point on license] I wouldn't worry too much for the journey home.
You'll have the MOT fail sheet that says its just emissions problems.
From memory if you did get pulled and get a producer you'd get two weeks to sort the MOT in any case [I think]
BUT feel free to book it in for an MOT local to you if you want to be totally above board

Best of luck for tomorrow
Jo0Lz

I must admit i wanted it too, but only to rip the engine out to throw into l3 uno, and as such had to stop bidding as its a long old way to dorset. and putting mot on it to get it back would have been pointless.

on subject of mot, i'd recomend you book it in at the mot centre deptford.
Free fail, so if it fails no big problem and your covered from point of view of getting it home.

be prepared to pay your £45 though as it may scrape through if you give it a good trash on way there!

Good news so far..

Insurance is now sorted, as of 11am tomorrow, the UcofUno will will be the main car on my insurance. My current car will then have a week's worth of cover on it whilst I get the UcofUno sorted and happy. That week's worth of insurance cost me £14 :)

MOT is booked for 8:30 on Monday morning.

Tax runs out end of May.

Will hopefully getting a lift to London with a colleague, staying at my dads house tonight, then heading off to near Colchester tomorrow morning, then driving all the way home back to Wales on Saturday.

I'm hoping that the good, long and gentle drive will clear any crap out of the engine - any chance it will clean the cat out?

Will nab some reddex and fully top her up with fuel, check oil, water level, washer fluid and tyre treads and pressures before I set off too.

Will try to remember to get all writen material (log book and service history and so on) when I get the car. I also hope there is a spare key.

...and I'll take pictures and do a proper writeup when I can.

Blimey, you only went & got it! bullseye! (final price related pun) *groan* :D

Dont worry about the pint, if you know how to use a compounding pad on a polisher (or speed adjustable angle grinder set all the way down) then you`ll have it buffed up to a lovely shine in about 6 hours!

Make sure you polish it monthly after that though...

Take a print out of the auction & the MOT fail, so if you do get a pull they`ll see that theres nothing dangerously wrong with it, & if it comes to it you could argue that by driving it a long way your actually repairing the car by clearing the cat....

Well done mate (y)

I am now the proud owner of 500ml of cataclean for the pricely sum of 14.95 )
thanks for the idea joolz!

Just headed off to pick up the car. Getting all excited now!
Eta is an hour and 15.

Have now arrived at my mums house after a 65 mile drive. Poured the CatClean into about a quarter of a tank of fuel and blasted it home.

The car is in really nice condition, though it needs a damn good clean. There's green mold around the black strips on the side, there's leaves in the air inlet and the headlining is a bit mouldy.

Everything else works perfectly though, and as prevously suggested, the ONLY thing it failed on the MOT was emissions.

I'm personally happiest that it has all 4 original wheel covers on! :D

There does seem to be a problem with the cooling system though - the car isn't overheating by any means, but the coolant level has significantly dropped after the long drive I just did - it's not leaking out of the cooling system, but instead the heat of the water is causing a pressure build up, which is causing the safety valve to release, spraying the bonnet, battery, and some of the engine bay with coolant. Will refill and bleed it before I set off on the next long leg of the journey (entire length of the M4) and see if it makes a difference.

Paintwork will definately buff up to a nice shine.

:)

Right, on with the driving!

SWeeT...GLaD to hear it turned out as GooD as we had all hoped

Hmm FucT.FiaT does a similar thing....it doesn't run HoT...AND with the big NEW HOLE in the front bumper it actually runs CooL

BUT it STiLL persists in spitting out coolant from the pressure cap if I fill the rad significantly above the MIN coolant line.
It just seems to prefer its coolant at MIN
and runs perfectly happy like that

Ohhhhhhhhhh LEAVe it with that NATURAL patina.... . . . well for a few weeks at least....;)

KinDa LooKs PINK!!!! ;)

Now at services near bristol.
Car seems happy after i bled and filled the coolant, however i regret to inform you that i have burnt my finger on the boiling coolant.
It still hurts, just here. *points at finger*

the water is definitely boiling away in the expansion tank though- steam coming out of the top. Water is also a horrible poo colour. Will give it a complete flush through tomorrow when giving the car a once over and a wash.

Only thing that i know is missing is the cover for the timing marks.

Right, onwards to Wales!

Three plus a parts car here!!!:)
Great write up again UCOF, couldn't see he photo of the burnt finger though.

A good flush and some coolant cleansing solution to clear out the pipes, flush the heater etc, and see if that stops it using some coolant. If it was me and it was summer (or the danger of frosts are over) I would just run water in it until I was sure it was right. Like for a few days to a couple of weeks.

Does it run at normal temperature.

Hopefully there are no hints of a H/G issue.

Good lad!

coolant may be passing the rad cap cos the rad cap needs replacing :D that seal don't last for ever ya know ;)

I've had it on a couple of Unos ;). try your known good one.

But rusty brown water is a sign of a neglected cooling system. No rust inhibitor, no fresh antifreeze means the ferrous metal could have suffered erosion, same for all the gaskets.

Don't worry about it though, just flush it through and the water will run clear after a day or 3. My turbo took ages to clear, but the engine had been stood empty for who knows how long, and I'd already washed out all the pipes and heater matrix / rad before I put it all in. just keep filling, funning for a bit (till stat opens) and empty repeat with fresh water.

When the water runs clear, do it again for good measure then (and only then) add antifreeze 50 50 mix (y).

We agree so it must be right :D

Cheers for the idea about the cap Louie :)

Rawill - there was no picture. I was just demonstrating me pointing at my finger :D

So far today, I have taken the time to flush out the coolant. As said, it was a horrible poo brown colour, but after about 3 or 4 flush throughs, the water was running clear so I filled it up with anti-freeze, popped the cap back on (after cleaning that out) and letting the engine get up to temperature until the fan kicked in. The water had what looked like liquid copper floating in it. Oil level is fine thankfully as well as the fact there is NO distributor oil leak! :D

I have also taken the washer and air vent shroud off at the top of the bonnet and cleared out any crud that accumulated. There were a few sticks and leaves in there, which are there no longer.

Also brushed the engine bay and bonnet liner with a new washing up brush to clear out the mud and mould that was present.

Had a look at the ignition barrel as the key was sticking - removed it and it looks perfectly clear. Will need to have a think about this one.

Removed annoying dealership window sticker from rear view mirror.

Cleared out the breather tube of the gloop that was there.

However, I still need to:
Change over seat covers
Change over parcel shelves
Speaker wires and sub
Radio
Change over the instrument cluster and install rev counter
Install econometer
Wash car
Hoover car.
Replace wiper blades
Change over the FIAT and UNO badges on the boot for my Darwin Fish and FSM ones.
Wax car
Possibly change over clear indicators.
Clean rooflining
De-"Uno Start" decal the car.
Change over locking fuel cap.

Thankfully, its a sunny day and I have nothing else better to be getting on with! :D

Have taken some pictures, but as I have dial up until tomorrow (broadband is installed), I'll post them then instead.
