Well as the title says my indicators have stopped working completely all of a sudden. I have checked all the bulbs and connections which all work fine, e.g if i press my remote to lock the doors all the indicator lights flash up as normal however only if i try and use my indicators whilst driving for example they do not work at all. Which has left me baffled. I have checked all my fuses which are fine so what else could it be? And also my hazard lights are not working properly either. if i switch them on they stay lit rather then flash intermittently. Someone suggested it may be the relay but if so where would it be found? My uno is a 1.4 turbo i.e but was originally a 1 litre uno i.e and still uses the switch gear off the 1 litre uno so it would be the same as a standard 1 litre uno. Everything else on the car is off a fiat uno turbo. Where would the relay be found on a 1 litre uno??? Any ideas. oh and my uno is a k reg 1993 model if it helps!

Hi Frosty,
Take off the steering column covers (two or is it four long screws underneath, plus one in the centre).

The flasher unit is plugged in on the left side of the column switch - try jiggling it around. Spray some contact cleaner in the socket. If it's not coming to life, try to borrow one off someone before you plump for a replacement - they don't fail often so second-hand is probably best.

Refit the steering column top cover carefully - it has two little hooks at the back.

Cheers,
-Alex

Frosty,
Oooh, a picture! That's asking a lot, lucky that my red Uno's in bits ;)

I have exactly the same problem as the original poster (indicators and hazard lights don't flash any more, when they were working fine yesterday). I have a 1995 Fiat Uno ie start.

I tried to look for the flasher unit in the steering column, to see if cleaning it would fix the problem, but I can't even get the steering column cover off. It is held on by things that look like screws, except they have flat heads, so a screwdrive won't grip them, so you can't unscrew the things.

Does anyone know how I can get the steering column cover off so I can look for the flasher unit? Or will have have to take my car to a garage to get it fixed?

Thanks,

Helen.

The steering column plastic is held together with hex bolts, u need a torque wrench to open them. Its easiest with those screw driver style ones where you can change the top head. Cant remember exact size though but if you get a set you should have no trouble opening them. I would suggest you take a look in the haynes manual for a more detailed description. With regards to the relay it should be there in the steering column unlike mines which wasnt because my car is a conversion from a 1 litre to an uno turbo so i had to hunt down the relay lol but i found it in the end and its really not too difficult to fix. Simple swap really, got a used one from a scrappy, took the old one out and replaced it with the second hand one and hey presto good as new. :D
