Whats the original number plate?
You can look it up that way.

Also, are the pics a "before and after" car wash?

It is an Elba, Fiat did sell the van briefly (cant remember what they called them here now) but they hardly sold, so were withdrawn.

The boots are huge with a very low boot floor & the centre section of the bumper goes up with the tailgate (like the Regata weekend), so the boot lips at shin level (spare wheels under the bonnet, hence the clamshell bonnet).

I`d stick my neck out & say there cant be more than 5 left on the road in the UK, so very rare indeed...

They should have done this as an estate & the van can be converted to one very easily.

See the 5 door version below..

I`d buy it if its up for sale. (y)

That looks like a FIAT Citivan, or a Penny. We got them over here, although they were a bit rare.

They were derivatives of the Brazilian Uno.

ah looks like we got a winner http://www.wheelsofitaly.com/wiki/index.php/Fiat_Elba

It is that, but it wasnt known as the Elba here, "Citivan", like JJ said, does ring a bell.

The irritating thing is, I had a late 80`s Fiat Commercial brochure with one in, but I lost it long ago...:bang:

I really like the Elba. They are a handly sized, cheap to run, attractive estate.

 mmm... ElbaTurbo Panorama anyone? :D

WOW! Thanks for all your replies (once it was in the right section!) It does indeed say Citivan on the back, but googling that brought up nothing useful. I'll check the tailgate next time I'm passing to see where it ends.

I've driven past it regularly for a long time now - it does move occasionally, (well, has moved in the past) and once I thought it had gone gone, only to spot it down the fella's drive Phew! I have a soft spot for vans but atm am in no position to approach the owner.

Seeing as it's Uno based(?) would there be anything on it that's difficult to replace? Are they standard doors?

DVLA doesn't give model details but says 1116cc (petrol) engine, first reg'd August '90 &taxed til September.

Pics are before and after rain btw, a few months apart. They're just taken with the phone as I drive by.

Thanks again,
Mark
