hi all,
with the advent of my 'new' racer i figured id post here and get a thread going, except i realised ive never done a proper intro on here.
well here goes:
im matt
18
do lots of: karting, partying, music listening, racing, car working, eating, sleeping, sexing.
not so much : school work....uhh....other boring stuff.

ive been into fiats, mainly unos, literally all my life. dad had a 130tc when i was born and since then its all gone downhill

last summer i had a bit of a 'mishap' with an uno turbo
Read about that here: http://www.sfconline.org.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3660&SearchTerms=summer,of,horror
(you wont be dissapointed i assure you :bang:)

well ive been recovering since then, ive regained my lisence, and have just finished persuading my old dear to pay for my (now collosal) insurance for my seicento (at the cost of the national karting championsips but thats another story).

now i still really want an uno, so lucky for me my dad gave me one of his spare ones ;)
so The day has finally come that im back with an uno!

its by no means perfect but it does have some goodies on it and i have big plans for the little box :D

tell me what you think!

ive taken some general pics and some ones of the problem (r**t) areas...

first things first im gunna give it a clean & get a cover for it,
get it plates and regestered,
get it to run properly, and be a normal ish car (keys+ locks etc.) then MOT
stop it trying to kill me at every corner,
further into the future:
sort the rust out (respray?)
then turbo power i think (y)

ive got exams and shiz on until next week, then its back to normal school. apart form that ive got karting so im a bit busy atm, so progress wont be lightening fast, but i will get this thing sorted with time,i promice ;):D

thats cool!

what spec is the engine that is in there? im hoping it has more mods than just a k&n stuck on there ;)

hi there,thankyou!

haha no its a bit more advanced than that, i know for sure it has high compression pistons and total seal piston rings, i think the head is gasflowed and the crank knife edged but i havent taken it to bits to be sure.

gettting it to run would be a bonus! ill have a proper crack at it next weekend - the symptoms are consistant misfiring below about 3krpm (thats a guess, the dash dosent work....any ideas on that one?)(im no electrician lol) and generally struggles to start. i havent even done a spark check on it yet but can anyone think of problems that might cause this? sticking valve? duff plug? distributor connections dirty? anything else?
(crap (old) fuel believe it or not dosent help this engine, so that could do it?)

also, the fuel pump makes lots of noise and some ticking, and dosent prime properly i.e., when the ignition is on, the fuel pump is running and dosent turn off by itself - to get it to run i have to syphon fuel to the carb through the pump before i start it - is the pump buggered or is it just the wrong type or something ?

any ideas appreciated

Nice project.

Would be a plus to keep all 4 tyres on the road .

As for the pump priming , I was under the impression that the 1301 nat asp was a mecanical pump. If so you'd have an up rated pump which may not have the circuitry to prime automatically. is there a manual switch?

How about a choke? Has it got an auto choke :D.

Damp in the distributor / plugs / leads? When was it last run properly? what's your dad recon LOL.

cheers louie,

haha yeah, well maybe 2 would be cool :D:D

a mate suggested i write 'this way up' on the roof lol

yeah its on a manual switch, but its making a god awful ticking noise and is really quite loud so i dont know whats going on there.

dunno if its got a choke actually should ahve checked lol :bang: but i dont think it does. a choke not on wouldnt cause massive misfire would it?

yeah distributor is on the list of things to check when i next see it...

the manual choke leaver would be by your left knee if it's standard. Don't know about twin webbers having auto choke but would need some kind of choke. These carbs do need regular adjustment so I'm told.

Don’t think a lack of choke won't cause a misfire, but it will help it start when cold by erm adding more fuel to the mix ;) hence the name (y).

Don't think carb engines need to prime as the mechanical fuel pumps have no way of priming prior to the engine turning, plus the carb don't inject or atomise fuel under such a high pressure, so no need to build pressure like in a common rail / SPI electronically controlled injector set-up.

Maybe the pump needs a good clean out / back wash off the car? What’s the pre pump filter like?

Did you know how long since this car has been driven?

Oh what's inside the distributor? is it points and a condenser or electronic ignition (with ecu). pitted points or a buggered condenser can also mess the firing.. Hmm I really don't mis my first Uno with the 903cc mechanical everything LOL!!

nah i think your right - they dont ahve autochoke, ok ill phone up mr. wdr and ask him about it

haha, alright alright im not a complete spanner, just a bit thick on occasions lol :D

yeah thats on the list isnt it? i was certainly planning on doing that. anyone know how a fuel pump works....i mean anyone got a good diagram?

its been a good year since its been driven lou, ill give it a service hopefully this weekend then we will see whats happening
whats a condenser cam?

Looks a great project, though with all those things going on in your life, I'm surprised you have time for an Uno  :D

Your parents are kind, aren't they...! After that other happening -

Anyway - all the best,

-Alex

haha ive always got time for unos Alex!

yeah i guess they're ok, i am quite persistant when it comes to my cars though....

cheers mate, ill be hoping you make regular visits to this thread - im going to need to tap into your brain and feast on the concentrated uno-ey goodness inside.....i.e...im going to need your ideas :D

speaking of which.. can somone help me with why absolutely nothing on the dashboard is working?!(n) ill check fuses this weekend but anyone else got any ideas?

Any updates on this?

Looks like an interesting little project, though you've got quite a lot of work to get it in roadworthy condition. If the engine is a good spec you could have a right screamer on your hands (y)

Did you manage to get it started?

Edit: Those alloys are gorgeous :yum: :yum: :yum:

Sorry RSF I missed your reply till now

Who said Condenser cam?

I said a condenser can...

Usually when toy have manual points, these is a capacitor (Known as a condenser) which (I think) helps give a better spark. The two are usuely replaced at the same time. I have had a failed condenser back in my poor student days which took ages to work out!

Where’s Chas been? :D

ECU or Points?

Where’s Chas been? :D

Working solid nights for my work placement in early January so I could have more time off before starting my third year at University in Feb. Finished my work placements on Jan 11th and within a few days I was over in southern Spain for 9 days. Came back and got a last minute offer so am now over in Long Beach, California until the 12th :D

No snow here, just blue skies, sunshine and temps up to 25 degrees

right,
HELLO ALL!

ive made some pretty good progress with the uno last weekend.
got it running sweet as a nut and (luckily took a video before) it then broke down again.(n)

I have a horrible feeling that this car is going to be all electrical gremlins for me, which is annoying as it is the area of cars that i know least about by far!

last weekend i changed the HT leads for magnecor ones off my UT, put fresh fuel in, cleaned out the fuel pump (its one of those piston ones you can take apart) changed all plugs and put a new battery in. then began swapping old fuses for fresh ones. got the heater fan to work (sometimes) and the indicators to work (occasionally, then they broke again).the headlights and windscreen wiper work fine (although the dip beams come up on the dashboard as only a dim main beam light), but only the drivers side tail light works.
it was running fine, and getting dark, so i called it a day.(y)

returning the next day loads of turning over but no joy....i have no sparkies!:(

now the rev counter hasnt worked in a long time, nor has most of the dashboard, and im told that this particular uno has a problem with moisture after it has been left standing, and, that a day with a small fan heater pointed under the dash will probably help.

i could probably borrow a multimeter from schoool at the weekend if that helps.

oh and it has a lumenition ignition system

any ideas much appreciated (y)

Check the Earth, this sometimes causes the electrics to go a bit loopy!

I'm in Fleet so i might see you about whem your on the roads!

yeah earths was the first point of call on my list (in my head lol)

ah nice one!..... if i ever get back on the roads that is! my mum is not keen on getting my insurance again atm.

but yeah, if you ever need any fiat based help im more than happy to lend a hand (y)
