hi again,
i got my steering rattle and clonked when came overbumps or gravelish road. after a brief check, i found lower steering shaft coupling joint (thing look like a cross joint) was a bit shot. mine is uno70s '91.
i already got this joint but still figure out proper way to install. anyone have experience in replacing this bit?

thanks, pottleflump.
i have it, but as far i can read and understand the manual, this can be done by removing all upper steering components (wheel steering till coupling shaft and pinch bolt).
and about getting the joint on its place, is it easy way slot-in? im not sure but i'll give it a go.

If you mean the 'joint' that connects the steering column to the steering rack then yes, you disconnect the upper steering components. This is actually quite simple going from memory.

  • Remove the covers from the indicator/ light switches on the steering wheel.
  • Disconnect the wiring to the steering wheel switches.
  • Undo the pinch bolt securing the joint to the steering rack and column.
  • Undo the four nuts securing the steering column to the underside of the dashboard.
  • Pull the steering column away from the footwell. The joint should slide off the steering rack.
  • The joint has splines so it should slide off both the rack and column once the pinch bolts are removed. You may need to open out the 'pinch' section if it is tight.
  • Once removed, slide on the new joint and re-fit as a reverse of the above instructions.

It should be a fairly simple job so take your time and good luck!
