Hi,
Having only bought our Ulysse last weekend, we are beginning to get the feeling the seller saw MUG written on our foreheads:bang: .
The latest problem is to do with the clutch. My wife :)worship: ) came in saying it was slipping, so I dutifully went out and drove it about. Seemed fine through all gears....BUT THEN.........in 4th & 5th gears just as revs reached around 3000, the revs would start to race away. Backed off throttle, then tried again. Same thing happened. Worked clutch pedal few times ( clutch starts to bite near bottom...OK ), and then things seem ok, but then will do same thing occasionally later. Rough feel throuh clutch pedal operation.
Any ideas.....CLUTCH / CABLE or BOTH

If the clutch is slipping, then it's had it.:(

If the clutch operation is rough also, then I'd be tempted to replace the cable too.

To be honest, the clutch is fairly straight foward to replace. You can change it without removing the front subframe by just pulling the gearbox off and resting it in the gap between the subframe and the chassis leg.

Thanks for that. Bodywork wise the car is in good condition, but in the few days we've had it, different things have started showing up that suggest the sellers really saw us as an easy target.

Being an Undertaker, I do not generally have the time to fit in changing clutches etc, so any ideas what sort of costs I should be looking at ( or number of hours labour ), to have clutch and cable changed.

Generally cheapest garages around here are £50 +vat per hour labour so best to have an idea of what to expect(y)

Book time for clutch change is 5.8 hours, cable is 0.75 extra.:(

Times this by your garages hourly rate, add around £150 parts, and then the dreaded VAT and you'll be somewhere near.

In reality clutches take 3 hours to change(if all goes to plan),so there could be a bit of negotiation on the price....:)

£560 all in for a clutch?? Surely not!! Thats an insane amount of money for a clutch supplied and fitted!

seems a little steeeep its £128 for a deisel clutch kit £45 for the 2.0 petrol one, new i should have been a machanic instead of a joiner:rolleyes:or local garage took £148 labour to fit a tempra clutch whole bill was about £210

Thanks to all of you who took the time to reply to my post. We have decided to put the car in for an MoT tomorrow afternoon to get a fuller picture on the state of our "never given us any problems!!!!" new buy. After that we can decide what to do. I am probably out of touch with garage prices as I think that for my local village garage to want £340 +vat + parts to change a clutch is a bit much.
Looks like I will have to get under the thing myself, so heres not expecting it to run again:cry:

Once again.......THANKS(y)
