General another newbie question

Hi,

Have you got your Connect Nav registered with a SIM card. YOu should have got a registration form from the dealer when you got the car for the 1st years free subscription. You then need to phone up and have it activated.

When this is activated the message should disappear.

hmm, I asked the dealer about the registration form and they said they'd already done it for me. But when I stuck in the sim card it said Connect non-operative or something.
Does it take time to get activated I wonder, or is the dealer telling me a fairy story?

Hi,

Once you put the SIM card in the car, you need to call a number to activate it. What happens is the dealer should give you a number to call, this is a local or freephone number which is routed to Italy. They will ask you to confirm the SIM card phone number as well as your Connect Number and they will then activate it by sending a signal to the car. To see if it is activated, hold down the "main" (or it could be "menu") button until you see a menu with Services, then look under Connect and you should see your phone number listed in as one of the 5 possible numbers. This will also list your Connect number at the top.

Don't forget to switch off your answer service and call waiting other wise it won't work.

Cheers - in the post today I got my part of the Connect form from the dealer with the numbers and codes on it.
Everything seems to be coming together...

Forgot to mention, try and avoid BT Cellnet. I don't know anybody who has been able to get it to work. I use a Virgin SIM card which worked first time.

Out of interest, I have now been given a new 0800 number to contact Italy. The one I was using off the form i.e. 08000 964etc, seemed to go to ansaphone after 6pm [or sometimes 5.45pm], and not work weekends.

BUT spoke to Henry in Milan last night, and he gave me a weekend number. Will give it out once I know it works! Ok?

This has always been a pain for me, cos the car is owned by the missus, and my work hours mean I can never get back in time to phone, or leave too early before lines are open. She won't do it, because, well, not wanting to sound sexist, she has no idea what to do!

The dealer must setup the connect system at pdi, and these should be enabled as part of pdi in the body computer,Go Back To the dealer and complain.

Ha ha - complain!!!! My dealer, and by the sounds of it, every dealer in this country has had enough trouble even knowing what a Connect Form looks like, let alone have one ready for PDI.

I think, however, that this is something the customer is partly responsible for. After all, you need to buy a SIM for the phone number to give to Connect. I doubt very much Fiat will ask for a SIM when you pay your deposit, for example, or a few days before PDI. You only tend to buy this, surely, once car already delivered!

And when I have spoken to the guys and galls in Milan, even they say it is USUALLY the customer that sets all this up.

At the end of the day, FIAT UK is totally at fault for not even understanding what it is selling.

And even on the Connect registration form the Connect Activation Code is wrong, missing the first 2 digits.

You can get the right one at the end of some menu in the car, I forget which. It's all a blur, I tell you *raves*....
