Time for new brake pads but would rather fit them myself and save some dosh.
Any issues with warrenty if using non fiat Brake pads?
I presume as long as they are reputable make that would be fine.
Obviously any problems related to them and your on your own.
But at £130 to have them fitted by fiat seems a bit rich.

I presume that is just the pads plus fitting. I had a quote of £140.00 by our local garage for fitting new pads & discs. Are you sure you don't need new discs as the general problem seems to be that the discs need changing at the same time as the pads. I know our discs will be worn down at the same time as the pads.

Has your brake pad warning light come on.

Check the very edge of the discs and I bet there is a ridge of a couple of mm. Our's is an auto so it will be heavier on brakes, but it has only done 19K and I expect another 5-6K on the current pads. Apparently as they no longer contain asbesto's the pads are harder so wear the pads quicker.

I am a bit shocked about how quick they wear, because my BMW only had front pads at 60K because they take the pads out as part of the normal 60K service and there was no labour charge to change them for new ones. The new ones were only £50, so it made sense to change them anyway even if they had a few more miles in them so I didn't pay the labour charge later.

Hello

I've just had my 36,000 mile service and the front pads are 80% worn, no need for new discs apparently. Also just changed the front tyres for the first time, down to 2mm with the edges further down than that. Back tyres still have 5/6mm on.

Quite impressed how long the tyres have lasted, my Galaxy used to get through front tyres in 25,000 miles.

I personaly had a look at my pads at the weekend and there's at least 6mm or more left on them. Not sure how thick they are from new but they still seem to be a few mill off the waer warning wires so will leave till after our european holiday and see how they are after that.
The disks look fine. Only a very small lip on the edge. I normally skim that off with a grinder when replacing the pads to avoid the problem with grinding noise as the pads wear down and the lip hits the back of the pad metal before the pads are actaully worn.
