Well I have got a workshop manual for the Ulysee and I intend to flush the system and replace the coolant, just wondering what to use instead of paraflu and if I should use red or blue coolant, also any tips on what to use instead of the fiat special filler bottle, would I get away with just filling it without having to make a bottle.

I think I read somewhere about running the engine till the water starts to get hot and expelling any air this way.

Hello,

Best way to fill the coolant system is with a vacuum filler, feed from an air supply.

This ensures no air locks. Running the engine doesn't get rid of the air locks, it just makes the coolant boil in them.

Regards

Cannot source a vacuum filler, well not on net and none in halfrods what I can see:(

Thanks but a bit pricey as I will only probably use it once every 3 years or so

true,

we use ours about 10 times a week, so I guess it's paid for itself now, it is nearly 2 yrs old!

as for the coolant color. Depends whats in there;

If its blue/green its the old type, if its red/pink, then its the new long life coolant.

It is no problem (according to Fiat) to use red in a system previously filled with blue/green (just drain and flush the old stuff first, DON'T mix), but never use blue in a system designed for/filled with red.
