The exterior handle on my 1998 Fiat ulysse 'S' has stopped working, we can now only open the door using the inside handle, the outside handle has no pressure on it feels like somethinghas broken off inside, is this an easy fix or will I have to take it to a garage? if I take the inside panels off what will I be looking for? any advice and diagrams would be gratefully appreciated

remove the panel and if its the same as on later cars the mechanism is riveted in place.
drill out the rivets and take off the rods.
its quite likey that a small spring has come adrift from its correct position.
it may need bending back into place, but mine only worked for about 3 months and now its gone again.

I had a simlar problem with my 03 plate and I have disconnected the central dead lock and both back sliders and have had no problems to press!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a quick question how did you disconnect the central deadlocks and sliders?

thanks

This is a common problem on the Mk1 Ulysse/806/Synergie/Expert/Dispatch/Scudo's

The long term fix is to replace the door handle. But this will not mean that the fault doesn't re-occur.
