I was unable to locate 1.6 DOHC engine number in printed materials available to me. Googling brought 149.C2.046 - is that correct?
Thanx.

The 66 kW 1.6 DOHC was based on 2.0 DOHC. It was used from 1988 to 1990. It has very poor reputation as far as fuel economy is concerned.

Are you sure it was a 1.6 and not a 1.8? All the 1.6 are SOHC.

The 1.8 (1750cc) is based on the 2.0 and there is a 66kW DOHC version.

Although the info I gathered is inconsistent, the engine exists (there are at least two members of the local forum who have it), but it may be it was made available only for some markets. See e.g. http://fiattipo.coolglory.de/info_motor.php, where its number differs from the one I received from local forum :(
But, honestly, I only wanted to be clear about which engine to avoid should I buy Tempra SW. As further investigation revealed, the engine was never used in Tempra SW, therefore the case can be considered as "closed successfully, villain punished" :D

Hello!

I will ask in our Tipo/Tempra-Forum for engine-code.
The 1.6 DOHC are very seldom. You will nothing find in ePer for this engine. Only on the old "Micro- Fishe" you will be able to find the spare-part numbers.

It is not surprising that Fiat did a twin-cam 1600 Tipo, this engine was very sucessful in the eighties. It went into the SuperMirafiori, Strada/Ritmo, Regata, and the Lancia Delta GT/GTie and the Prisma. In no way is it a "bad" engine, but for most markets they probably offered the 1.8 twin cam Tipo, and remember the original 1.6 SOHC with the Weber carb was much quicker than the later ones with SPI and cat.

Respect is due to all Fiat (Lampredi) twin-cam 8V engines! Especially in the Tipo!
