Re: Tailgate wiring

Tailgate wiring now sorted! A great relief when I got live feed from all the right switches. Just hope I don't break anything getting it all the attachments back on tomorrow. The tip about the connectors behind the carpet was a great help in tracing everything back to source. Thankfully no rust there either. Will post some pics of the finished job.
Another question. Do you have a preferred type/grade of engine oil for your Tipos? I am leaning towards Selenia 10/40 which seems to suit my Lancia Prisma and is well priced now at Shop4parts but wondered if anyone has a particular recommendation.

Re: Tailgate wiring

Restoration work going well with most of car back together and everything working as it should. As always though, the simplest things give the most problems. Decided to take out the washer reservoir and give it a good clean inside and out as pretty cruddy. Ended up dropping the thing and now have a water leak. GRRRR!

Re: Tailgate wiring

Which side of Chester are you on? We moved here last year and I do have a spare one somewhere. I hope we can have a local meet when our Tipos are finished.

Re: Tailgate wiring

I've managed to stop the leak with sealant and a patch but not sure how long it will hold. Hopefully enough to have a working washer for MOT which is booked for Thursday! Obviously it would be good to have a spare if you have one you don't need.
I live on the outskirts of Chester just off the A41/A55. Thanks.

Re: Tailgate wiring

Another Tipo in the area... I'm in Bromborough (late Mk2) and there's a nice one (Mk1) over in Liverpool.

As regards oil I'd say your choice is a pretty good bet, I've used Valvoline MaxLife 10W40 a fair bit, or a similar Morris oil (from Shrewsbury..).

FYI there were different oil filters between earlier and later Tipos... they started out with Imperial threads (UNC ?) but later switched to Metric. I think (from memory) that the later ones will fit an earlier car but a but feels sloppy going on until its tightened up.

Glad to here your working through the issues on your car.

Have you got a sunroof ? Any leaks?

John

Love the idea of a local meet! It's been ages since I've seen another Tipo besides my MK1 (based in Liverpool).

Re: Tailgate wiring

Pleased to say I finished all the reassembly work last week and the car passed its MOT on Thursday with a clean sheet. I have quite a long list of things to finish, like fitting the radio cassette and sorting out interior trim and drivers' seat height adjuster that seems to be jammed. Will also get alloy wheels refurbed and clean up the engine bay properly. BUT the important thing is a mk1 Tipo is back on the road and running really well. My wife will be using it as her regular driver and she is delighted with it.
Yes Bluejohn, I do have a sunroof (electric). Took a bit of effort to get it to work , I suspect though lack of use, but now OK and no leaks so far. Would love to join a local meet sometime later in the year if others are interested.

A Tipo hotspot has developed in the Chester/Wirral/Liverpool area I won't take up any more of Iggy's thread but I'd like to be involved after tackling my engine (hopefully March/April) and it would an opportunity to do some photos if people are comfortable with that.

Tailgate wiring

Oh thats good. Pleased there is a Tipo hot spot anywhere frankly, but I wish it was nearer to me down here on the kent/sussex border.

I have always been a big fan of these cars.

Looks stunning! How did the respray turn out? Was it expensive?

Re: Tailgate wiring

Thanks for the compliments Michael. Yes, very pleased with the result and runs as well as it looks. Respray cost me 1500 all in which I think is fair, given poor condition of original paintwork and large number of parking dings on panels. As I said earlier, not concourse standard but more than acceptable for a car in regular use.

Re: Tailgate wiring

Well Bluejohn, seems I spoke too soon! After wind and rain last week I have noticed a bit of wet around inside of sunroof. Any tips on how to fix this? Thanks.
