I wanted to ask anyone, cause i got a problem on the dash instruments and its driving me crazy.
On starting the engine i had the fuel gauge, boost and temperature would give full scale deflect and remain that way during the trip, but the problem would dissappear overnight.
Now the problem appeared again but the gauges remained weeks giving a full scale. Other instruments in the dash work fine.When the engine is started the boost gauge and temperature would flicker but when engine is off there is no flickering. Fuel gauge remain full no matter what.
ALL intruments worked fine before the problem appeared. (even boost and fuel). temperature gauge never gave any readings.
I tried several attempts checking the dash circuitry for anly dry joints or bad tracks on the pcb. I even resoldered all component. The wiring to the dash seems ok too.
ANY IDEA????????

Agreed. There is a single black wire ground strap just below the battery just for dashboard ground. Check that.

I tried to see for that earth under the battery but i couldn t find it. Do you need to get the battery tray off completely???

I took off the battery and the 3 bolts holding the tray and still could not get it off cause there are other stuff attached to it. But i pushed it a bit aside and could see nothing.

Mine is a diesel so space is really limited near the engine.

i found a group of earths just opposite to the battery attached to the chasis....

The earth problem really makes sense cause thats what i was thinking but i really can t manage to find the wire......

I found the black wire attached to the chasis, and was connected to 4 thinner wires which i presume are the dashboard earths.

I assured they are well earthed. But still got the problem.............

Since i got the fuel, temperature & boost gauge all giving a full indication i am trying to disconnect them one by one.
Disconnecting the fuel gauge from the tank did not improve or worsten anything.

The temp gauge never worked so it should be disconnected.

I can t manage to find the boost sensor.......

Only a guess but I think now that your DGT panel is damaged. All those gauges are microprocessor controlled.
If you already checked all connectors and the ground strap there is nothing I could suggest from this distance.
Do you have any friend with same panel in order to borrow one just for check?

Thats a bit of a prob cause here in malta only a few tipo diesel dgt were sold(few means tens). Mostly were the petrol versions.
I tried to take it to a garage and i was told its not worth the effort.
